contactwiththepatient.
13. Allowonlyproperlytrainedindividualstooperatedevices(e.g.,monitoringequipment)in
theMRenvironment.
14. Follow
allmanufacturerinstructionsfortheproperoperationandmaintenanceof
physiologicmonitoringorothersimilarelectronicequipmentintendedforuseduringMR
procedures.
15. ElectricaldevicesthatdonotappeartobeoperatingproperlyduringtheMRprocedure
shouldberemovedfromthepatientimmediately.
16. Closelymonitorthepatientduringthe
MRprocedure.Ifthepatientreportssensationsof
heatingorotherunusualsens ation,discontinuetheMRprocedureimmediatelyand
performathoroughassessmentofthesituation.
17. RFsurfacecoildecouplingfailu res cancauselocalizedRFpowerdepositionlevelstoreach
excessivelevels.TheMRsystemoperatorwillrecognizesuchafailure
asasetofconcentric
semicirclesinthetissueontheassociatedMRimageorasanunusualamountofimage
nonuniformityrelatedtothepositionoftheRFcoil.
Theadoptionoftheseguidelineswillhelptoensurethatpatientsafetyismaintained,especially
asmoreconductivematerialsand
electronicallyactivateddevicesareusedinassociationwith
MRprocedures.
