TESTING PROCEDURES 7 ROUND PIN TRAILER TESTING PROCEDURE: MANUAL TESTING MODE To avoid false readings: Visually inspect trailer socket for corroded and/or squeezed pins. Bad or broken socket pins can cause false readings. Replace socket if pins are broken or socket appears to have been subjected to extreme heat. If connections are corroded, clean all connections with the 7 Round Pin Connector Cleaners (IPA®’s #8024) and load socket with dielectric grease. 1.
6b. If the trailer lights are grounded through the chassis, use the following instructions. Plug in the 10 foot Chassis Ground Cable to the SMART MUTT® “Chassis Ground Outlet” (Fig. 3-N). Then using the alligator clip, attach the other end of the ground cable to the chassis of the trailer. This effectively grounds your trailer and allows testing to continue. 7. After the “Ground Integrity Test” the Control Knob (Fig. 2-A) may be rotated in either direction to select a circuit to diagnose.
NOTE: The SMART MUTT® uses an advanced form of current sensing throughout all circuits at all times. This may cause dim lighting of some high efficient LEDs in unselected circuits. The Crossed Circuit Indicator functions in the Small Trailer LED mode, and eliminates a possible misdiagnosis from the current sensing of the MUTT®. Brake light selection does not show a crossed circuit to a turn signal.
REMOTE FUNCTIONS: REMOTE PROGRAMMING With MUTT® in the OFF position hold large button (Fig. 4-2) of remote while simultaneously turning the MUTT® power on. Release after 2 seconds. The remote is now programmed. HOW TO USE THE WIRELESS REMOTE 1. AUTO CYCLE Press and release button #1 (Fig. 4- ) Fig. 4 – Remote Control and the SMART MUTT® will enter Auto Cycle Mode where a circuit is powered for 6 seconds before the tester automatically begins powering the next circuit in clockwise sequence. 2.

GREEN: GOOD RED: LOW VOLTAGE INDICATOR OVERLOAD WARNING INDICATOR GROUND INDICATOR OPEN CIRCUIT INDICATOR REVERSE POLARITY INDICATOR Fig. 6 – Warning Indicators POWER TO TESTER WARNING INDICATORS: VOLTAGE INDICATOR (Fig. 6) • When the battery supply voltage drops to 9V or less, the MUTT® shuts down power to all circuits and the Voltage Indicator flashes red.
OPEN CIRCUIT WARNING INDICATOR (Fig. 6) • In the instance a selected circuit is not completed through the trailer harness, (e.g., a faulty ground or no load detected), the Open Circuit warning flashes and sounds. • Note: Small trailer testing may initiate a false Open Circuit warning in trailers using single LED assemblies in a circuit. Go to Small Trailer LED Mode section (page 12) to commence testing on these types of trailers.
TAPE THE 7900K-79AS ANTENNA WIRE ASSEMBLY HERE BATTERY MAINTENANCE & STORAGE Be sure to properly maintain your battery. The internal batteries are sealed lead acid battery.
