Slip Resistance:
Slip resistance denes the slip resistance of a ceramic or natural le as determined by the Ameri-
can Society of Tesng Materials. Dynamic coecient of fricon (DCOF) is dened by a numerical
range between zero and one. A meet the ADA guidelines, a le must have a DCOF of .42 or greater.
A Lower number for the DCOF has less fricon, tracon and the surface is there more slippery. A
higher number for the DCOF has more fricon, tracon and the surface is therefore less slippery.
Water Absorpon:
Impervious Tiles have the lowest absorpon, 0.5% or less. These are suitable for
all applicaons.
Vitreous Tiles have a low absorpon, .5- 3%. These are suitable for wet areas
and outdoor applicaon
Semi-Vitreous Tiles are moderately absorbent, 3-7%. These can be used in most
areas in the house
Non-Vitreous The most absorbent les, exhibing more than 7.0%. These les
should only be used inside the house where there is no moisture or
humidity . If outside the le can crack due to freezing water.
