3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
Emergency Overview:
Clear, Amber, Liquid.
Health studies have shown that petroleum hydrocarbons pose
potential human health risks which may vary from person to
person. Exposure to liquids, mists, vapors and fumes should
be minimized.
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:
INHALATION:
Vapors are minimal under normal conditions but should be
avoided, concentrations may reach levels when overheated that
could cause a release of hydrogen sulfide and respiratory
collapse, coma and death without warning signs.
EYE CONTACT:
May cause slight temporary eye irritation. Corneal injury
is unlikely. Vapors or mists may irritate eyes.
SKIN CONTACT:
May cause skin irritation. Discontinue use if irritation
persists.
INGESTION:
Ingestion of oil may irritate the digestive tract and could
cause diarrhea. Single dose oral toxicity is greater than
5000 mg/Kg in rats.
OTHER:
The TLV has not been determined for this material. The TLV
for oil mists is 5 mg/cubic meter.
