ThecondensatetrapmaybeprimedbyllingtheCONDENSATE
U-ASSEMBLYwithtapwaterusingthesuppliedhosewhilethewater
heaterisnotoperating.Thesystemisfullyprimedwhenthehoseis
loweredbelowthehoseclamponthesideofthewaterheaterand
waterbeginstoowoutofthehose.Inmostinstallationsthewater
heaterwillself-primethecondensatetrapduringtherstfullheat-up
cycle.Ifasoundofairbubblingthroughwater(gurgling)isheard
whiletheblowerisoperatingaftertherstheat-upcycle,thenturn
theunitoffandcontactyourplumberorservicerepresentative.
Iftheseinstructionsarenotfollowed,thecondensatebuild-upwill
blocktheexhaustoutlet,whichwillcauseimproperoperation.

Condensateislikelytoformintheventingsystemattachedtothis
waterheater.Theventpipeshouldbeslopeddownwardawayfrom
theblowerassembly(notlessthan1/8”(3.2mm)norgreaterthan
1/2”(12.7 mm) perfoot (30cm) maximum).If the ventpiping is
ventedlevelorsloped upwardsawayfromtheblower assembly,
thenadequatemeansfordraininganddisposingofthecondensate
needstobemadebytheinstaller.Ineithercase,a3/8”drainhose
shouldbeconnectedtothebuilt-indrainport.Priortooperatingthe
waterheater,makesuretheremovablecapisinstalledonthesecond
drainport,seeFigure17.
BLOWER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION
1. Thispowerventedwaterheatercomeswithblowerassemblyinstalled.
2. Aftertheunitissetinplace,makesuretheblowerassemblyisstill
mountedsecurelyandmakesurethereisnodamagetoblower.
3. Condensatedrainsfromaminimumoftwolocations,onebeing
thebottom ofthe blowerhousingmust beused asshown in
gure17.Acapmustbeinstalledontherubberbootdrainport
if not used forthe third condensate line.A condensate hose
must be secured to form a “trap” as shown in gure 17 for
thesecondensatedrainconnections.Thesetwohosesmaybe
connectedtogether.Thehose(s)shouldberoutedtoasuitable
drain.Attingthatmaybeusedtojointhetwohosesfromthe
blowerassemblyisincludedinasuppliedkit.

4. Makesurethereisnopackingmaterialintheinletordischarge
oftheblower.
5. Makesurethattheplastictubingisstillattachedfromtheair
pressureswitchtotheportontheblowerhousing.Makesure
theplastictubingisnotfoldedanywherebetweenthepressure
switchandtheblowerhousing.
6. MakesuretheON/OFFswitchisintheOFFpositionandthat
theouterharnessisconnectedfromtheblowercontrolboxto
theconnectoronthebottomsideofthegasvalve.
7. Iftheouterharnessisnotfactoryinstalled,makesuretheON/
OFFswitchisintheOFFpositionandthenconnecttheouter
harnessfrom the blowercontrol boxto the connectoron the
bottomsideofthegasvalve.
8. Donotpluginpowercorduntilventsystemiscompletelyinstalled.
ThePowerVentoperateson110-120Vac.thereforeagrounded
outletmustbewithinreachofthe6foot(1.8m)exiblepowercord
suppliedwiththevent(SeeFigure1).Thepowercordsupplied
maybeusedonaunitonlywherelocalcodespermit.Iflocal
codesdonotpermituseofexiblepowersupplycord:
A.Makesuretheunitisunpluggedfromthewalloutlet.Remove
theplastictopcap.Removescrewsandopenpanelonthe
frontofthecontrolboxontheblower.
B. Cuttheexiblepowercord,leavingenoughtobeabletomake
connections.Removethestrainreliefttingfromthebox.
C. Installasuitableconduitttinginsidetheenclosure.
D. Spliceeldwiringintoexistingwiringusingcodeauthorized
method(wirenuts,etc).
E. Becertainthatneutralandlineconnectionsarenotreversed
whenmakingtheseconnections.
F. Groundheaterproperly.Thiswaterheatermustbegrounded
inaccordancewiththeCanadianElectricalCodeC22.1and/
orlocalcodes.Thesemustbefollowedinallcases.
Thewaterheatermustbeconnectedtoagroundedmetal,
permanent wiring system; or an equipment grounding
conductor must be run with the circuit conductors and
connectedtotheequipmentgroundingterminalorleadon
thewaterheater,seeFigure19.
G. Closethepanelonthecontrolbox.Makesurethattheaccess
panelissecuredshut.
9. The blower discharge boot is made to accept only straight
sectionsof2” pipe.Tostartoffwithanelbow,ashortsection
ofthefurnishedpipe,aminimumof2inches(5.1cm),mustbe
cutandgluedintotheendoftheelbowthatwillmountonthe
dischargeboot.
INSTALLATION OF VENT SYSTEM
Beforebeginninginstallationofpipingsystemthoroughlyreadthe
sectionofthismanualVENTPIPEPREPARATION.
Ifyouareinstallingyoursystemsothatitventsthroughroof,pleaserefer
tosectiontitledINSTALLATIONOFVERTICALVENTSYSTEM.
VENT TERMINAL INSTALLATION, SIDEWALL
1. Installtheventterminalbyusingthecoverplateasatemplateto
marktheholefortheventpipetopassthroughthewall.BEWARE
OF CONCEALED WIRING AND PIPING INSIDE THE WALL.
