ASSEMBLY BEFORE REMOVING TRACTOR FROM SKID NOTE: You may now roll your tractor off the skid. Continue using the instructions that follow to remove the tractor from the skid. OPERATION The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields while operating your tractor or performing any adjustments or repairs. We recommend standard safety glasses or a wide vision safety mask worn over spectacles. HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR NOTE: Failure to move throttle control between half and full speed (fast) position, before stopping, may cause engine to “backfire”.
OPERATION TO MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD (See Fig. 20) TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS (See Fig. 22) Gauge wheels are properly adjusted when they are slightly off the ground when mower is at the desired cutting height in operating position. Gauge wheels then keep the deck in proper position to help prevent scalping in most terrain conditions. NOTE: Adjust gauge wheels with tractor on a flat level surface. • Adjust mower to desired cutting height (See “TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT” in this section of manual).
OPERATION REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS) (See Fig. 24) TO TRANSPORT (See Fig. 25) When pushing or towing your tractor, ensure transmission is disengaged by placing freewheel control in freewheeling position. Free wheel control is located at the rear drawbar of tractor. • Raise attachment lift to highest position with attachment lift control. • Pull freewheel control out and into the slot and release so it is held in the disengaged position. • Do not push or tow tractor at more than two (2) mph (3,2 km/h).
OPERATION BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE TO START ENGINE (See Fig. 16) When starting the engine for the first time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take extra cranking time to move fuel from the tank to the engine. • Ensure freewheel control is in the transmission engaged position. • Sit on seat in operating position, depress clutch/brake pedal and set parking brake. • Place motion control lever in neutral position. • Move attachment clutch to “DISENGAGED” position.
OPERATION MOWING TIPS PURGE TRANSMISSION • CAUTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel lever while the engine is running. • To ensure proper operation and performance, it is recommended that the transmission be purged before operating tractor for the first time. This procedure will remove any trapped air inside the transmission which may have developed during shipping of your tractor.

MAINTENANCE TRACTOR BLADE CARE For best results mower blades must be kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged blades. Always observe safety rules when per form ing any maintenance. BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than five (5) feet (1,5 m) to stop at highest speed in highest gear on a level, dry concrete or paved surface, then brake must be checked and adjusted. (See “TO CHECK BRAKE” in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual.
MAINTENANCE V-BELTS TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL (See Fig. 30) Check V-belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary. The belts are not adjustable. Replace belts if they begin to slip from wear. Determine temperature range expected before oil change. All oil must meet API service classification SG-SL. • Ensure tractor is on level surface. TRANSAXLE MAINTENANCE • Oil will drain more freely when warm. • Catch oil in a suitable container.
MAINTENANCE CLEANING AIR FILTER Your engine will not run properly using a dirty air filter. Service air cleaner more often under dusty conditions. See engine manual. • • CLEAN AIR SCREEN The air screen is over the air intake blower located on top of engine. The air screen must be kept free of dirt and chaff to prevent engine damage from overheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to remove dirt and stubborn dried gum fibers. Clean engine, battery, seat, finish, etc. of all foreign matter.
MAINTENANCE DECK WASHOUT PORT (See Fig. 33) Your tractor’s deck is equipped with a washout port as part of its deck wash system. It should be utilized after each use. 1. Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot on your lawn, near enough to a water spigot for your garden hose to reach. IMPORTANT: Make certain the tractor’s discharge chute is directed AWAY from your house, garage, parked cars, etc. Remove bagger chute or mulch cover if attached. 2.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY, BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SERVICE OR ADJUSTMENTS: • Depress brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place motion control lever in neutral position. • Place attachment clutch in “DISENGAGED” position. • Turn ignition key to “STOP” and remove key. • Make sure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped. • Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO LEVEL MOWER • Ensure tires are properly inflated to the PSI shown on tires. If tires are over or under inflated, it may affect the appearance of your lawn and lead you to think the mower is not adjusted properly. FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT (See Figs. 38 & 39) IMPORTANT: Deck must be level side-to-side. Recheck measurements, adjust if necessary until both sides are equal.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO CHECK BRAKE If tractor requires more than five (5) feet (1.5 m) to stop at highest speed in highest gear on a level, dry concrete or paved surface, then brake must be serviced. You may also check brake by: 1. Park tractor on a level, dry concrete or paved surface, depress brake pedal all the way down and engage parking brake. 2. Disengage transmission by placing freewheel control in “transmission disengaged” position.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO START ENGINE WITH A WEAK BATTERY (See Fig. 43) FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAMBER Your new tractor front wheel toe-in and camber is set at the factory and is normal. The front wheel toe-in and camber are not adjustable. If damage has occurred to affect the factory set front wheel toe-in or camber, contact a qualified service center. WARNING: Lead-acid batteries generate explosive gases. Keep sparks, flame and smoking materials away from batteries.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLACING BATTERY (See Fig. 44) TO REMOVE HOOD AND GRILL ASSEMBLY (See Fig. 45) WARNING: Do not short battery terminals by allowing a wrench or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Before connecting battery, remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc. Positive terminal must be connected first to prevent sparking from accidental grounding. • • • • • • • • • • • • Raise hood. Unsnap headlight wire connector. Stand in front of tractor.
STORAGE ENGINE Immediately prepare your tractor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used for 30 days or more. FUEL SYSTEM IMPORTANT: IT IS IMPORTANT TO PREVENT GUM DEPOSITS FROM FORMING IN ESSENTIAL FUEL SYSTEM PARTS SUCH AS CARBURETOR, FUEL FILTER, FUEL HOSE, OR TANK DURING STORAGE. ALSO, EXPERIENCE INDICATES THAT ALCOHOL BLENDED FUELS (CALLED GASOHOL OR USING ETHANOL OR METHANOL) CAN ATTRACT MOISTURE WHICH LEADS TO SEPARATION AND FORMATION OF ACIDS DURING STORAGE.

ALMACENAMIENTO Inmediatamente prepare su tractor para el almacenamiento al final de la temporada o si el tractor no se va a usar por 30 días o más. MOTOR SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE Advertencia: Nunca almacene el tractor con gasolina en el estanque dentro de un edificio en donde los gases pueden alcanzar una llama expuesta o una chispa. Permita que el motor se enfríe antes de almacenarlo en cualquier recinto privado.
SERVICIO Y AJUSTES REEMPLAZAR LA BATERIA (Vea Fig. 44) ADVERTENCIA: No haga cortocircuito con los terminales de la batería al permitir que una llave de tuerca o cualquier otro objeto entre en contacto con ambos terminales a la misma vez. Antes de instalar la batería remueva las pulseras de metal, los relojes de pulsera de metal, los anillos, etc. El terminal positivo tiene que conectarse primero para evitar las chispas debido a la conexión a tierra por accidente.
SERVICIO Y AJUSTES CONVERGENCIA/INCLINACIÓN DE LAS RUEDAS DELANTERAS La convergencia y la inclinación de las ruedas delanteras no son ajustables en su tractor. Si ha sufrido daño como para afectar la convergencia o la inclinación de las ruedas delanteras, póngase en contacto con un otro centro de servicio cualificado. Si están demasiado inflados o poco inflados, el césped no le quedará bien cortado, lo cual podrá llevarlo a pensar que la segadora no está bien regulada. MANTENIMENTO PUERTO DE LAVADO DE LA CUBIERTA (Vea Fig. 33) La plataforma del tractor está equipada con un puerto de lavado como parte del sistema de lavado de la plataforma. Se debe utilizar después de cada uso. 1. Lleve el tractor a un lugar horizontal y despejado de su césped, lo bastante cerca de una boca de riego como para que llegue la manguera del jardín. IMPORTANTE: Asegúrese de que la boca de descarga del tractor está orientada LEJOS de su casa, garaje, coches aparcados, etc.
MANTENIMIENTO • Su motor puede sufrir averías y funcionar de manera incorrecta con un filtro del aire sucio. Déle servicio al filtro de aire más a menudo si se usa en condiciones polvorosas. Cambie las correas si empiezan a deslizarse debido al desgaste. ENFRIAMIENTO DEL TRANSEJE Las aletas de enfriamiento y el ventilador de la transmisión tienen que mantenerse limpios para asegurar el enfriamiento adecuado.
TRACTOR MANTENIMIENTO Siempre observe las reglas de seguridad cuando dé mantenimiento. PURGAR LA TRANSMISIÓN OPERACIÓN CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR PRECAUCIÓN: Nunca enganche o desenganche la palanca del control de rueda libre cuando el motor esta funcionando. Para asegurar la operación y ejecución adecuada, es recomendado que la transmisión sea purgada antes de operar el tractor para la primera vez. Este proceso removerá cualquier aire adentro de la transmisión que se halla formado durante el transporte de su tractor.
OPERACIÓN ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR REVISE EL NIVEL DE ACEITE DEL MOTOR El motor de su tractor se envía de fábrica ya lleno con aceite de peso para verano. Para cambiar el aceite del motor, vea la sección de Mantenimento en este manual. • Para la operación en clima frío, debe cambiar el aceite para poder arrancar más fácilmente. (Vea el manual del motor.) • Revise el aceite del motor con el tractor en terreno nivelado. Vea el manual del motor para otras instrucciones.
OPERACIÓN No empuje o arrastre el tractor a más de 3,2 km/h (2 mph). • Tire del mando de la rueda libre hacia afuera y hacia abajo hasta que se coloque en la guía y suéltalo de manera que se mantenga en la posición de desenganchada. • Levante la palanca de levantamiento del accesorio a su posición más alta. • ATENCIÓN: Ir marcha atrás con el embrague puesto para cortar, no es recomendable.
OPERACIÓN Las ruedas calibradoras están bien ajustadas cuando se encuentran un poco a distancia del terreno al mismo tiempo que la segadora esté a la altura de corte deseada. Entonces las ruedas calibradoras mantienen el conjunto segador en posición para prevenir el corte raspeo en casi todos los terrenos. La dirección y la velocidad del movimiento son controladas por medio de la palanca de cambio (J).
