Sleep, Reset, Hibernate, Power-Off, and Recovery Putting the Mesa 3 to Sleep The Mesa 3 goes to sleep after a few minutes by default. When the tablet is in a sleep state, it is still powered up, but in a low power state. 1. To put the Mesa to sleep, press and release the power key or go to the Start menu, select the Power symbol, and select Sleep. Going into a sleep state can take several seconds, depending on which activities the tablet is working on at the time.
Powering Off and On the Mesa 3 To preserve battery power, we recommend you power off the Mesa 3 if it will not be used over a long weekend or several days. ! CAUTION: Be aware that when the Mesa 3 is powered off, it closes all programs and powers down all system components. If hibernate is not used, all programs are closed and unsaved data is lost. 1. Save open files, and close any running programs. 2. Go to the Start menu, select the Power symbol, and select Shut Down.
Mesa 3 is Locked Up If the Mesa 3 is completely stuck and won’t respond or you cannot get to the Start menu, hold the power key down for five seconds to see if that solves it. If that doesn’t work, hold it down for 10 seconds. This causes a hardware shut off. Press the power button again to power it on. If 10 seconds doesn’t work, hold the power button down for 20 seconds. Batteries are forced to electrically disconnect from the tablet, causing a complete shut down.
Compass Calibration The compass has been factory calibrated. Periodic user calibrations help the compass function in the environment the Mesa 3 is being used in. 1. Open an app that uses the compass. 2. Move the Mesa 3 around in the air so that it is oriented in different directions and angles. An effective way to assure this is properly done is to move the Mesa 3 back and forth in a sideways figure 8 for approximately 30 seconds.
Note: If Bluetooth is on and the tablet enters sleep or hibernate mode, Bluetooth turns off to save battery power. The connection is resumed once it powers back on. (This is not the case with the extended range Bluetooth) Wi-Fi Wireless Networking The Mesa 3 has built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking to connect to the internet or an office network. Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network To use Wi-Fi, you need to be in range of a Wi-Fi access point to make a connection.

RFID Connector To open the RFID application, go to the Start Menu and select All Apps > RFID Connector. The following screen is shown.
Select User from the menu. Tap the menu symbol to minimize the menu bar.
Date Time If set to something besides “none,” these are prefixed or suffixed to the data that is scanned. For example, if you have Prefix set to ‘#,’ Suffix 1 set to ‘none,’ and Suffix 2 set to ‘$’, and the tag you scan is “123,” the keyboard wedge will output “#123$” as if typed from a keyboard. Scan Time: determines the maximum time to attempt to scan for before giving up.
Use copy/paste buffer: When this is set, the RFID data (sometimes including prefix/suffix data) is placed in the copy buffer, and then a “Ctrl-V” is simulated to paste the data wherever the user has focus. Caution: The data is left in the copy buffer, so if sensitive data is being scanned, use “individual keystrokes”. This method is much more snappy. Use individual keystrokes: When this is set, every character (including prefix/suffix data) is sent as individual keystrokes.
RS-232 Port An RS-232 9-Pin D-Sub connector is an option for the Mesa 3. Depending on the factory configuration, it will provide either 5 VDC or 12 VDC on pin 9. There is a RS-232 Control Panel to configure the behavior of the RS-232 port. There is a link to it on the desktop. When you open the RS-232 Control Panel, the default configuration is shown: The options can be edited to suit your application: Enable RS-232 port: When it is unchecked, it powers down.
