Important Safeguards Special cord set instructions a. A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Chapter 2, ‘Preparing and using your IMPRESSA for the first time’, explains step-by-step how to set up and prepare the IMPRESSA.

In elegant piano black and with a new user interface, the high-quality IMPRESSA C9 is fully in keeping with current trends and exudes an aura of superiority, durability and competence.
1 IMPRESSA C9 Z Height-adjustable coffee spout: The height of the coffee spout, which can be adjusted within a range of 65 to 111 mm, can be adapted to all cup sizes on a continuous scale. This prevents coffee splashing on the machine and is your guarantee for a rich, thick crema.

You will prepare your IMPRESSA step-by-step for your first coffee experience. Set up Keep the packaging for your IMPRESSA. It should be used to protect the machine during transportation.
2 Preparing and using your IMPRESSA for the first time First-time use WARNING If the machine is operated with a defective power cable, there is a danger of electric shock. T Never use a machine which has a defective power cable. Precondition: The water tank and bean container are full. T Insert the mains plug into a power socket. 3 T Switch on the IMPRESSA using the power switch on the back of the machine. The indicator light lights up (standby). Q T Press the On/Off button to switch the IMPRESSA on.
2 Preparing and using your IMPRESSA for the first time E When a coffee speciality has been prepared for the first time, it is possible that FILL BEANS is shown on the display as the grinder has not yet been completely filled with coffee beans. In this case prepare another coffee speciality. Using and activating filter Your IMPRESSA no longer has to be descaled if you are using CLARIS filter cartridges. @ You can also try out the ‘Insert filter’ operation online. 2 Preparing and using your IMPRESSA for the first time T Place a receptacle (at least 500 ml) under the frother. c T Press the maintenance button. FILTER RINSING. Water will flow out of the frother. E You can interrupt rinsing of the filter at any time by pressing any button. E The water may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste. Filter rinsing stops automatically after approx. 500 ml. HEATING appears on the display, then READY is displayed.

OK appears briefly on the display to confirm the setting. g T Turn the Rotary Switch until EXIT is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch to exit programming mode. READY appears on the display.

T Turn the fineness of grind switch to the desired position while the grinder is running. The coffee will be prepared and the fineness of grind is adjusted. T Close the aroma preservation cover and the cover of the bean container.

CAPPUCCINO RINSING Cappuccino rinsing starts, and then stops automatically. The IMPRESSA is switched off (standby), and the indicator light lights up. E When your IMPRESSA is switched off, a hissing noise may be audible. This is normal and does not have any effect on the machine.

T Place a cup under the coffee spout. g T Turn the Rotary Switch until STRONG is displayed. o T Press the Coffee button for as long as STRONG is displayed. 1 COFFEE / STRONG. The pre-set amount of water flows into the cup. Preparation stops automatically.

Coffee preparation will start and the espresso will flow into the cup. T Press any button as soon as enough espresso has flowed into the cup. Preparation stops automatically. OK appears briefly on the display.

Chapter 3, ‘Familiarising yourself with the control options’, will teach you how to adjust the settings to your personal preferences. Alternatively, you can use Chapter 5, ‘Permanent settings in programming mode’.
4 Preparation at the touch of a button Coffee Example: This is how to prepare a coffee. T Place a cup under the coffee spout. o T Press the Coffee button. 1 COFFEE is displayed. After this, the coffee strength is briefly displayed. The pre-set amount of water flows into the cup. Preparation stops automatically. READY appears on the display. To prepare two cups of coffee: Place two cups under the coffee spout and press the coffee button o twice (within two seconds).

To ensure that the Easy Cappuccino Frother works perfectly, it should be rinsed and cleaned regularly (refer to Chapter 6 ‘Maintenance – Easy Cappuccino Frother’). Cappuccino with the Professional Cappuccino Frother T Take the protective cover off the Professional Cappuccino Frother. T Attach the milk pipe to the frother.
4 Preparation at the touch of a button Pre-ground coffee You can choose a second coffee blend with the filler funnel for preground coffee. E Never add more than two level measuring spoons of preground coffee. E Use pre-ground coffee which is not ground too finely. Very fine coffee can block up the system so that the coffee only comes out in drips. E If you did not fill the machine with a sufficient amount of preground coffee, NOT ENOUGH PRE-GROUND is displayed and the IMPRESSA stops operation.
4 Preparation at the touch of a button Foaming milk with the Easy Cappuccino Frother T Take the protective cover off the Easy Cappuccino Frother. T Attach the milk pipe to the frother. T Insert the other end of the milk pipe into a milk carton or connect it to a milk container. T Place a cup under the frother. ü T Press the milk foam button. HEATING READY appears as soon as the IMPRESSA has heated up. ü T Press the milk foam button once more. MILK, the milk foam is being prepared.

E If you want to heat the milk, set the selection lever of the frother to the milk position t. ü T Press the milk foam button. HEATING READY appears as soon as the IMPRESSA has heated up. ü T Press the milk foam button once more. MILK, the milk foam is being prepared. Preparation stops automatically.

5 Permanent settings in programming mode Resetting the products to works settings You can reset the values of all products individually to the works setting. Example: Proceed as follows to reset the values of 1 espresso and 2 espressi to the works setting. Precondition: The IMPRESSA must be switched off (standby). T Press the Rotary Switch and the Espresso button for two seconds at the same time until OK appears. The values of 1 espresso and 2 espressi are then reset to the works setting.
5 Permanent settings in programming mode g T Turn the Rotary Switch until EXIT is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch to exit programming mode. READY T Close the cover of the Rotary Switch. Time If the machine is disconnected from the mains, the time has to be reset. Precondition: READY is displayed. T Open the cover of the Rotary Switch. k T Keep the Rotary Switch pressed until RINSE appears. g T Turn the Rotary Switch until TIME is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch to enter the programme item.

Example: To change the unit for the amount of water from ML to OZ, proceed as follows. Precondition: READY is displayed. T Open the cover of the Rotary Switch. k T Keep the Rotary Switch pressed until RINSE appears. g T Turn the Rotary Switch until DISPLAY is displayed.

ENGLISH g T Turn the Rotary Switch until DEUTSCH is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch to confirm the setting. OK appears briefly on the display to confirm the setting. SPRACHE g T Turn the Rotary Switch until EXIT is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch to exit programming mode. BEREIT T Close the cover of the Rotary Switch.
6 Maintenance 6 Maintenance Your IMPRESSA has the following integrated maintenance programmes: Z Rinse machine Z Filter change Z Clean machine Z Descale machine Z Rinse frother Z Clean frother E Clean or descale the machine or change the filter whenever the appropriate indicator lights up. Maintenance tips To ensure that you get many years of reliable service out of your IMPRESSA and to guarantee the optimum coffee quality, the machine requires daily maintenance.
6 Maintenance k T Press the Rotary Switch to initiate the rinse operation. RINSING Rinsing stops automatically and your IMPRESSA is then ready for use. T Close the cover of the Rotary Switch. Filter change E After 50 litres of water have flowed through, or after two months, the filter will cease to work. Your IMPRESSA will automatically prompt you to change the filter. E If the CLARIS filter cartridge is not activated, you will not be prompted to change the filter.
6 Maintenance E You can interrupt filter rinsing at any time. To do this, press any button. E The water may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste. Filter rinsing stops automatically after approx. 500 ml. The IMPRESSA heats up and is once again ready to use. Manual filter change You can initiate the ‘Changing the filter’ operation manually. Precondition: The filter is activated and READY is displayed. T Open the cover of the Rotary Switch.
6 Maintenance Cleaning following a prompt Precondition: READY / CLEAN is displayed and the maintenance button c lights up. c T Press the maintenance button. EMPTY TRAY T Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. PRESS RINSE, the maintenance button c lights up. T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout and the frother. c T Press the maintenance button. CLEANING, water flows from both coffee spouts. The process is interrupted, ADD TABLET.
6 Maintenance Descale machine CAUTION The IMPRESSA builds up deposits of limescale over time and automatically prompts you to descale it when necessary. The degree of calcification depends on the degree of hardness of your water. If the descaling agent comes into contact with the skin or eyes, this can cause irritation. T Avoid contact with the skin or eyes. T Rinse the descaling agent off with clean water. Should you get any descaling agent in your eye, see a doctor.
6 Maintenance T Completely dissolve the contents of one blister (3 JURA descaling tablets) in a container that holds 500 ml of water. This may take several minutes. T Pour the solution into the empty water tank and insert it in the machine. AGENT IN TANK, the maintenance button c lights up. T Remove the frother. T Place a receptacle (at least 500 ml) under the Connector System©. c T Press the maintenance button. DE-SCALING This causes water to flow out of the Connector System© several times.

T Open the cover of the Rotary Switch. k T Keep the Rotary Switch pressed until RINSE appears. k T Press the Rotary Switch to enter the programme item. C–CLEANING g T Turn the Rotary Switch until DE-SCALE is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch. EMPTY TRAY T Close the cover of the Rotary Switch.

T Place a receptacle under the Easy Cappuccino Frother. T Open the cover of the Rotary Switch. k T Keep the Rotary Switch pressed until RINSE appears. k T Press the Rotary Switch to enter the programme item. C CLEANING T Turn the Rotary Switch until C–CLEANING is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch.
6 Maintenance T Pour 250 ml of fresh water into a container and add one capful (max. 15 ml) of Cappuccino Cleaner. T Immerse the milk pipe in the receptacle. T Place another receptacle under the frother. c T Press the maintenance button. CLEANING, the frother and pipe are cleaned. The operation stops automatically. WATER FOR CAPPUCCINO T Rinse the receptacle thoroughly, fill it with approx. 250 ml of fresh water and immerse the milk pipe in the water.
6 Maintenance Rinsing the Professional Cappuccino Frother after a prompt Your IMPRESSA will prompt you to rinse the Professional Cappuccino Frother 10 minutes after you have prepared milk. Precondition: CAPPUCCINO RINSE is displayed and the maintenance button c lights up. T Place a receptacle under the Professional Cappuccino Frother. c T Press the maintenance button. CAPPUCCINO RINSING, the frother is rinsed. Preparation stops automatically. READY appears on the display.

6 Maintenance Disassembling and rinsing the Professional Cappuccino Frother T Carefully remove the frother from the Connector System© by twisting slightly. T Dismantle the frother completely. T Rinse all the frother parts thoroughly under running water. T Re-assemble the frother. E Ensure that the individual parts are correctly and firmly attached to one another to ensure optimum function of the frother. T Firmly attach the frother to the Connector System©.
6 Maintenance Descaling the water tank Limescale deposits may form in the water tank. To ensure correct function of the machine, descale the water tank from time to time. T Remove the water tank. T If you use a CLARIS filter cartridge, remove this. T Descale the tank with a mild, commercially available descaling agent in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer. T Rinse out the water tank thoroughly. T If you use a CLARIS filter cartridge, insert this again.
