ENA 3 IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS These safeguards apply for machines with UL safety test (see rating plate and chapter 8, ‘Technical data’). Follow the basic safety precautions When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following: Z Read all instructions. Z Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
ENA 3 Special cord set instructions a. A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Your ENA has a 3-pin grounded plug. b. Longer extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. c. If an extension cord is used, 1. the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and 2.
ENA 3 NEVER DO (or you will void your warranty protection): Z Z Z Z 36 Never fill instant coffee, chocolate mix etc. into the grinder or ground coffee funnel (grinder by-pass). It will damage the functioning of the brewing chamber. Never fill sugar coated coffee beans into the bean hopper. In case of doubt, call your dealer. Never fill anything other than coffee beans into the bean container (no chocolate, no rice, no nuts, no spices, nothing other than roasted coffee beans).

ENA 3 Proper use The machine has been designed and built for domestic use. It should only be used to prepare coffee and to heat milk and water. Use for any other purpose will be deemed improper. JURA Elektroapparate AG cannot accept any responsibility for the consequences of improper use. Before using the machine always carefully read and comply with all these instructions. Keep this manual close to the ENA and pass it on to the next user if applicable.
ENA 3 People, including children, who Z do not have the physical, sensory or mental capabilities to use the machine safely or Z are inexperienced or lack knowledge in how to use the machine safely must be supervised by a responsible person when using it, or must be instructed in how to use it correctly. Safe handling of the CLARIS filter cartridges: Z Filter cartridges should be kept out of the reach of children. Z Store filter cartridges dry in the sealed package.
ENA 3 Z Hot water nozzle T Remove the water tank and rinse with cold water. T Fill the water tank with cold, fresh water and replace the tank. Filling the bean container 3-colour plain text display Your ENA features a 3-colour plain text display. The colours of the display texts have the following meanings: Z Green: Your ENA is ready for use. Z Red: The ENA is prompting you to perform an action. Z Yellow: You are in programming mode. 1 CAUTION Coffee beans which have been treated with additives (e.
ENA 3 g T Turn the Rotary Switch until LANGUAGE ENGLISH is displayed. Using and activating filter Your ENA no longer requires descaling if you use CLARIS filter cartridges. E E k T Press the Rotary Switch to confirm the language setting. OK , the language is then adjusted. OPEN TAP T Place a receptacle under the nozzle. Perform the ‘Insert filter’ operation without interruptions. This will ensure optimum function of your ENA. After two months the filter capacity is reached.
ENA 3 k T Press the Rotary Switch. OPEN TAP l T Turn the switch to position m. FILTER RINSING, water is discharged from the nozzle. E E Rinsing of the filter can be interrupted at any time. To this purpose turn the switch clockwise. The water may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste. Example: Changing the water hardness from 16°dH to 25°dH . Precondition: READY is shown on the display. T Open the cover behind the Rotary Switch.
ENA 3 U If the fineness of grind setting is too fine, the coffee only drips from the coffee spout. Switching on the machine When the ENA is switched on, a prompt to perform a rinse operation automatically appears. Q T Press the on/off button to switch the ENA on. HEATING PRESS ROTARY T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotary Switch to start rinsing. Z RINSING, the system is being rinsed, the operation stops automatically. Select a coarse setting for a darker roast.

E To ensure that the 2-stage frothing nozzle works perfectly, it should be rinsed regularly (refer to Chapter 4 ‘Rinse – Dismantling and rinsing the 2-stage frothing nozzle’).
ENA 3 Energy-saving mode A default energy-saving mode (Energy Save Mode, E.S.M.©) setting can be selected on the ENA. Programme item ENERGY - / p: Z ENERGY - U The ENA is then in constant stand-by mode. U All coffee products as well as hot water can be prepared without having to wait. Z ENERGY p U After approx. 5 minutes the ENA switches to the energy-saving temperature and is not ready for use. U Before coffee or hot water is prepared, the machine heats up.
ENA 3 k T Press the Rotary Switch to confirm the setting. OK , the units of water are then adjusted. UNIT g T Turn the Rotary Switch until EXIT is displayed. Clean machine Descale machine Z Z E Clean or descale the machine or change the filter whenever the appropriate indicator lights up. k T Press the Rotary Switch to exit programming mode. READY Language The language is selected when the machine is used for the first time. Example: Changing the language from ENGLISH to FRANCAIS.
ENA 3 Changing the filter following a prompt E E E After 50 litres of water have flowed through the filter, its capacity is reached. The ENA automatically prompts you to replace the filter. After two months the filter capacity is reached. The elapsed time can be checked with the date plate on the cartridge holder. If the CLARIS filter cartridge is not activated, you will not be prompted to change the filter. Precondition: READY / FILTER is displayed. T Open the cover behind the Rotary Switch.
ENA 3 E E E The cleaning programme only lasts about 15 minutes. Do not interrupt the cleaning programme. The quality of cleaning will be impaired if you do so. JURA cleaning tablets are available from stockists. Precondition: CLEAN / READY is displayed. T Open the cover behind the Rotary Switch. c T Press the rinse button. EMPTY TRAY T Empty the coffee grounds container and Cleaning the machine – manually The ‘Clean machine’ operation can be manually initiated.
ENA 3 l T Turn the switch to position m. CAUTION Risk of damage if the descaling agent comes into contact with sensitive surfaces. T Remove splashes immediately. E E E The descaling programme lasts approx. 40 minutes. JURA descaling tablets are available from stockists. If a CLARIS filter cartridge is used and activated, you will not be prompted to descale the machine. DE-SCALING, water flows out of the Connector System© several times. CLOSE TAP y T Turn the switch to position o.
ENA 3 k T Press the Rotary Switch. EMPTY TRAY T Continue with the third prompt to take action (indicated by T), as described in the section ‘Descaling the machine following a prompt’. Rinsing the Professional Cappuccino Frother To ensure that the Professional Cappuccino Frother works perfectly, you should rinse it with water whenever you have prepared some milk. E The ENA will not prompt you to rinse the Professional Cappuccino Frother. T Remove the milk pipe from the milk carton or milk container.
ENA 3 T Rinse the receptacle thoroughly, fill with E 250 ml of fresh water and immerse the milk pipe in the water. T Empty the receptacle under the nozzle and replace under the nozzle. g T Turn the Rotary Switch until STEAM is displayed. k T Press the Rotary Switch. The ENA will not prompt you to rinse the Easy Cappuccino Frother. T Remove the milk pipe from the milk carton or milk container. T Fill a receptacle with fresh water and immerse the milk pipe in the water.
ENA 3 T Remove the milk pipe from the milk carton or milk container. T Pour 250 ml of fresh water into a receptacle and add one capful (max. 15 ml) of Cappuccino Cleaner. T Immerse the milk pipe in the receptacle. T Place another receptacle under the nozzle. Dismantling and rinsing the Easy Cappuccino Frother T Carefully remove the Easy Cappuccino Frother from the Connector System©. T Dismantle the nozzle completely. T Rinse all nozzle parts thoroughly with running water.
ENA 3 T Rinse all three nozzle parts thoroughly under running water. T Reassemble the nozzle and attach it to the Connector System©. Cleaning the bean container Coffee beans may be covered with a slight oil film which remains on the walls of the bean container. These residues may negatively affect the coffee results. For this reason clean the bean container from time to time. fr Q T Press the on/off button to switch the machine off. T Disconnect the mains plug. T Remove the bean container cover.
