C O N N E C T I O N S 7 GUIDE PLUS+ GOLD ™ SETUP GUIDE Plus+ GOLD requires a certain hookup to properly function. It requires that the TV, the VCR, and the cable box be connected in a certain, specific manner. We have provided very specific diagrams on the next 5 pages. Please follow them exactly in order to insure that GUIDE Plus+ GOLD works properly. CABLE & ANTENNA CONNECTIONS There are three basic types of antenna or cable hookups. #1.
C O N N E C T I O N S #2 Cable Box Required For All Channels 1) Connect cable wire out from the wall, in to the cable box input. 2) Connect cable wire out from cable box, in to the splitter RF input. 3) Connect cable wire out from splitter RF output, in to the TV RF input. 4) Connect cable wire out from splitter RF output, in to the VCR RF input. NOTE: A) In order for GUIDE Plus+ GOLD to control the VCR and the cable box, put one IR Mouse in front of the remote infrared receiver window of each device.
C O N N E C T I O N S 9 AUDIO/VIDEO CONNECTIONS — STEREO To get stereo sound from a hi-fi stereo VCR, you must connect it to the TV with Audio/Video cables. To get the best picture quality from any VCR, you should connect it to the TV with Audio/Video cables. 1) Yellow video cable out from VCR, in to TV Video input jack. 2) White audio cable out from VCR Left Audio output, in to TV Left Audio input jack. 3) Red audio cable out from VCR Right Audio output, in to TV Right Audio input jack.
C O N N E C T I O N S CONNECTING TO A DVD PLAYER 1) Connect green cable out from DVD player “Y” component output, in to TV “Y” component input. 2) Connect blue cable out from DVD player “P B” component output, in to TV “PB” component input. 3) Connect red cable out from DVD player “PR” component output, in to TV “PR” component input. 4) Connect white audio cable out from DVD Left audio output, in to TV Left Audio Input 2.
C O N N E C T I O N S 11 CONNECTING TO JVC AV COMPU LINK EX CAPABLE COMPONENTS AV Compu Link EX makes playing video tapes totally automatic. Simply insert a pre-recorded tape* into the JVC brand VCR, and the VCR automatically turns on and starts playing. At the same time, the VCR sends an AV Compu Link EX signal to the television telling it to turn on and switch to the correct video input. NOTE: The AV Compu Link EX cable may be included with the AV Compu Link capable accessory you intend to connect.
G E T T I N G S T A R T E D REMOTE CONTROLS RM-C344 RM-CM344 CHANGING THE BATTERIES Be sure to use only size AA batteries. 1 Push down on the remote's back cover and slide towards the bottom to remove it. 2 Insert the two supplied AA batteries, carefully noting the “+” and “–” markings on the batteries and remote control. To avoid a short circuit, insert “–” end first. 3 Slide the cover back into place (until it clicks into position).
G E T T I N G S T A R T E D 13 POWER ❒ Make sure that the TV/CATV switch is set to TV. Switch to CATV only to operate a cable box. ❒ Press the POWER button on the remote control or the TV front panel. The On Timer lamp will glow red. ❒ The first time you turn on the TV, the “Plug In Menu” will appear. You should turn to the Plug In Menu section (page 16) now to learn more about this menu. ❒ To turn the power off, press the POWER button again. The On Timer lamp will go out.
G E T T I N G S T A R T E D SETTING THE CATV & VCR CODES Many CATV & VCR brands have more than one code. If the first code in the list does not work, try the other codes listed. If your CATV box or your VCR do not respond to any of the codes listed for the manufacturer and search code function, use the remote control for that accessory to operate it. CABLE BOX OR SATELLITE SETUP The remote is programmed with the CATV and Satellite codes for power on and off, 10 key, and channel up and down.
G E T T I N G S T A R T E D 15 VCR SETUP The remote is pre-programmed with the VCR codes for power on and power off, play, stop, fast-forward, rewind, pause, record, and channel up and down. 1) Determine the correct code from the “VCR Codes” chart (below). 2) Slide the 2-Way Mode Selector Switch to TV. 3) Press and hold down the DISPLAY button. 4) Enter the 3-digit code with the 10 key pad while continuing to hold down the DISPLAY button. 5) Release the DISPLAY button.
T H E O N S C R E E N M E N U S THE SYMBOLS USED IN THIS GUIDE Whenever you see up and down arrows is this book, press the MENU UP or MENU DOWN button to: • Move vertically in the main menu, • Move through a submenu, • Move to the next letter, number, or other choice in a submenu, or • Back up to correct an error, or • Channel Up or Down Whenever you see left and right arrows, press the MENU LEFT or MENU RIGHT button to: • Select the highlighted item, or • Select the options in a submenu, or • Volume
P L U G PLUG IN MENU The Plug In Menu comes up automatically when you first turn on the TV after plugging it in. The Plug In Menu sets the default preferences for you for: ❒ The Language in which you want the onscreen displays to appear. ❒ The Auto Tuner Setup of channels to be included in scan. ❒ GUIDE Plus+ GOLD settings so you may begin to receive programming information.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D S E T U P SETTING UP GUIDE PLUS+ GOLD™ Before you can start taking advantage of all the great features of GUIDE Plus+ GOLD, you need to perform the setup process. Some basic information is needed by the television so that GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will operate properly. Setting up GUIDE Plus+ GOLD is easy with simple on-screen menus and your remote control. For the following steps you will use the up and down arrow keys and the 10-key pad on your remote.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D STEP 3 Next GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will ask if your television is connected to a cable system. 1. Use the up and down arrow keys on your remote to select Yes or No. 2. Press the ENTER button to record your selection. (If you selected NO, you will automatically move to Step 4. If you selected YES, you will move to Step 3A.) STEP 3A GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will then ask if you need a cable box to receive cable broadcasts. 1. Use the up and down arrow keys on your remote to select Yes or No.
G U I D E P LU S + G O L D STEP 3C Next GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will send a test signal to your cable box. The test will switch the channel in the PIP window to channel 09. 1. GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will ask if the PIP display switched to channel 09. If the channel has changed to 09 use the up and down arrow keys to select Yes and press ENTER. If the PIP window DID NOT change to channel 09, use the arrow keys to select No and press ENTER. (If you selected YES, you will automatically move to Step 3D.
GU I D E P LU S + GO L D STEP 4 Next GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will ask if your television is connected to a VCR. 1. Use the up and down arrow keys on your remote to select Yes or No. 2. Press the ENTER button to record your selection. (If you selected NO, you will automatically move to Step 5. If you selected YES, you will move to Step 4A.) STEP 4A GUIDE Plus+ GOLD features the VCR Plus+ system which makes videotaping a program as easy as entering a single PlusCode number.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D S E T U P STEP 5 Congratulations! GUIDE Plus+ GOLD setup is now complete. Your D800 Series television is now ready to use the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD system. 1. Press the ENTER button to continue. 2. You may see a second screen with reminders about your Cable and/or VCR connections. To continue, press ENTER again. (After you press Enter you will automatically continue on to step 6.) STEP 6 You will now see a final menu screen. From this menu you have four options: 1.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D 23 INTRODUCTION In this section you will learn how to use the features of your GUIDE Plus+ GOLD system. From easy to read program listings, to sorting your view choices by category, to one-touch VCR recording, watching television will never be the same. Notes: If you have not already done so, please run the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD Setup beginning on page 18. Setup must be complete before the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD features will work.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D GRID Grid shows you television listings on an easy-to-read, interactive display. By highlighting a program, you can get a brief summary of that show, with information including the V-Chip rating. Highlight a station and view what shows will be playing on that for the entire day. You can also command your VCR to tape a program with the push of a single button. Press the GUIDE/TV Button A Grid listing the television programs for your area will appear.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D 25 GRID Summary Window The summary window on the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD grid screen displays a brief description of programs you highlight from the programming Grid. In addition to a summary of the show, it displays information such as V-Chip rating, if Closed Captioning is available and if it is a stereo broadcast. Icon appears if additional information is available.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D SORT Sort lets you organize the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD listings so that you can find your favorite type of program quickly and easily. You may sort your programs by three main categories and numerous "sub-themes", all with a few simple buttons on your remote control. You can even see what's coming on in your selected categories up to eight days into the future.
G U I D E P L U S + SORT Once you have selected a program you can set your television to either Record or Watch. Press BLUE Button to Watch a program from the Sort list. Press the GREEN Button to Record a program from the Sort list. (See page 25 for more on the Watch and Record commands.) After programming the television to Watch or Record a program, you may select another program from the list. To move to a specific Program You may also repeat the Sort command using a different theme and sub-theme.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D NEWS The News feature helps keep you keep up with what's happening. GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will display the day's top news stories right on your TV screen. Select a topic from a list of headlines, then read the story on your TV. Choose from News, Sports, and Business stories, updated 24 hours a day. Press the GUIDE/TV Button Press the MENU Button to access the toolbar To News A list of headlines will now appear. Move through the list using the up and down arrows on your remote.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D 29 SCHEDULE Schedule lets you review what events are programmed into your television. Events can be shows you have set to record, or times you have set for your television to turn to a specific program. You can make changes to programmed events from the schedule menu. Press the GUIDE/TV Button Press the MENU Button to access the toolbar To Schedule A list of any scheduled events will appear.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D MESSAGES Messages may sometimes be received by your GUIDE Plus+ GOLD system. These messages may contain information about the operation of your GUIDE Plus+ GOLD system. They may be read from this menu option. Press the GUIDE/TV Button Press the MENU Button to access the toolbar To Messages A grid will appear listing all the messages you have received. To move through the message list The text of the highlighted message will be displayed in the summary window.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D 31 EDITOR Use the Editor feature to make changes to your GUIDE PLus+ GOLD program line up. Since cable systems may include dozens of stations, Editor allows you to turn the display of information for any channel on or off. It is especially useful for turning off stations you do not watch. Press the GUIDE/TV Button Press the MENU Button to access the toolbar To Editor The current channel listing for GUIDE Plus+ GOLD will appear.
G U I D E P L U S + G O L D SETUP The final option on the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD toolbar lets you access the Setup program. You can change any of the information you have previously entered during setup at any time. This is especially useful if you move to a new location or if you add a new piece of equipment to your television system Press the GUIDE/TV Button Press the MENU Button to access the toolbar To Setup Move to the option you wish to select using the arrow keys.

INFO VCR+ If additional information about an item is available this icon will appear. To access this added information, use the INFO button. GUIDE Plus+ GOLD gives you the option of one-touch programming of your VCR with VCR Plus+. Simply press the VCR+ button. INFO GUIDE/TV Use this button to enter and exit the GUIDE Plus+ GOLD system.
I N I T I A L NOTES: Initial Setup Menu items: • Auto Tuner Setup, and • Language are described in detail in the Plug In Menu section In the Channel Summary: To move up and down a column (e.g. from channel to channel) use the CHANNEL-/+ button To move from item to item (e.g. from channel number to scan to lock) use the MENU UP/DOWN buttons. S E T U P CHANNEL SUMMARY You can add or delete channels from channel scanning. You can also lock out any “unauthorized” viewers from one or up to 125 channels.
I N I T I A L V-CHIP Your TV is equipped with V-Chip Technology which enables TV Parental Guideline and Movie (MPAA) Guideline controls. V-Chip technology allows you to program your TV to receive, or not receive, programs based on content according to the guidelines. When a viewer attempts to watch a blocked channel this message appears: THIS PROGRAMMING EXCEEDS YOUR RATING LIMITS. PLEASE ENTER LOCK CODE BY 10 KEY PAD TO UNLOCK IT. NO.
I N I T I A L S E T U P Directions to Block Viewing: Line up the cursor in the column (TV PG, TV G, etc.) with the content row (V/FV, S, etc.) and press the or to move the cursor to the correct location, and press or to turn the locking feature on or off. An item is locked if the icon appears instead of a “—”. An example. To block viewers under 14 from all shows: Move the cursor to the top row of that column and add a lock icon.

These movies are considered what most parents would feel is too adult for their children to view and can consist of strong language, nudity, violence, and suggestive and explicit subject matters. ❒ X No One under 18. Innappropriate for anyone under 18.
I N I T I A L S E T U P Accessing V-Chip Information: To access Rating information about a certain program, press the V-CHIP button while viewing that program, this appears: PROGRAM IS RATED : TV-PG - V Note: For Childrens programming you can block TV-Y and Y programs by Pressing “0” when Y is displayed during a program. Programming for audiences other than children’s audiences will not be affected.
P I C T U R E A D J U S T TINT NOISE MUTING Adjust the levels of red and green. Inserts a blue screen and eliminates noise from channels that are not broadcasting or are too weak. Press the MENU Button To TINT To accentuate green To accentuate red To move to the next COLOR Adjust both the vividness and subtlety of the color.
S O U N D NOTE: MTS has no effect on normal sound broadcasts. A D J U S T BASS The Bass level adjustment feature allows you to raise or lower the level of lower frequencies in the TV’s sound. Press the MENU Button To BASS To emphasize bass To reduce bass To move to next MTS (Multi-Channel Television Sound) MTS technology gives you a choice among stereo, mono, and Second Audio Programs (SAP).
C L O C K / T I M E R S SET CLOCK ON/OFF TIMER The Clock is the heart of all timer functions. The clock must be set before the timer functions work. YOU tell the TV to turn on and off. Use it as an alarm to wake up, as a program reminder, or to simulate that you’re home when you’re out of the house.
I N I T I A L NOTES: Regarding the operation of the Language feature, refer to page 17. CLOSED CAPTION NOTES: If you turn the Mode to Caption or Text, that mode will automatically begin once you exit and save the settings. Captions are usually found on CC1 and text on T1. The other caption and text channels are workable but are for future purposes. If a black box covers half of the screen, Text Mode is on. Select OFF to turn it off.
B U T T O N F U N C T I O N S MENU VIDEO STATUS The MENU button allows you to access the onscreen menu system. Another complete discussion of these buttons and the menu system is located on page 16. The VIDEO STATUS button lets you select the “Choice” settings of the Set Video Status menu, or reset to factory settings. Once you press the menu button, the CHANNEL –/+ ( ) and VOLUME –/+ ( ) buttons work to operate the menu system. • Press ( ) to move up and down in the menu system.
