Regional code About the Remote Control Operation Range 1 ALL Notes on Regional Codes • • Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your DVD+VCR’s regional code or the disc cannot play. Point the Remote Control at the remote sensor and press the buttons. Distance: About 23 ft (7 m) from the front of the remote sensor. Angle: About 30° in each direction of the front of the remote sensor.

Remote Control Introduction DISPLAY Accesses On-Screen Display. Switches between the clock, tape counter and tape remaining modes on the display. DVD Select the DVD+VCR function mode to DVD. EJECT (Z) Ejects the tape in the VCR deck. ENTER/OK Confirms menu selections. Displays functions on the TV screen. MARKER Marks any point during playback. OPEN/CLOSE (Z) Opens and closes the disc tray. PAUSE (X) Pause playback or recording. Press repeatedly for frame-by-frame playback. N) Starts playback.

a Antenna: Disconnect the antenna from the rear of the TV and identify the antenna cable. If it is a round 75 ohm coaxial cable connect it directly to the jack marked ANT.IN on your DVD+VCR. If your antenna cable is flat connect it to a 300-ohm to 75-ohm antenna adaptor (not supplied) and slip the adaptor over the ANT.IN jack. Don’t attempt to screw it into to the DVD+VCR. b Cable TV: If your cable connection has no converter or descrambler, unscrew the cable from your TV and attach it to the ANT.
RF coaxial connection Optional TV Connections Connect the RF.OUT jack on the DVD+VCR to the antenna in jack on the TV using the supplied 75-ohm Coaxial Cable (R). These connections support only DVD playback. The tuner and VCR still output through the RF.OUT (R) or DVD/VCR OUT (A, V) jacks. How to set the DVD+VCR’s RF output channel Component Video / Progressive Scan connection 1. When the DVD+VCR is turned off, press and hold both CH - and CH + on the front panel for more than five seconds.
Connecting to an amplifier equipped with two channel digital stereo (PCM) or to an Audio/Video receiver equipped with a multi-channel decoder (Dolby Digital™, MPEG 2, or DTS) 1. Connect the DVD+VCR’s DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jacks (COAXIAL X) to the corresponding in jack on your amplifier. Use a digital (COAXIAL X) audio cable.
Initial Settings - VCR By using the VCR Setup menu, you can make various adjustments to items such as clock setting, and timer recordings. Your DVD+VCR allows Remote Control adjustment of several features. General Operation 1. Press VCR on the Remote Control. 2. Press SETUP MENU and the MAIN menu will appear. • AUTO CLOCK SET The Auto Clock Set feature is set to ON at the factory. In the ON setting, the DVD+VCR looks for a channel carrying XDS (Extended Data Services) information.
TUNING SETUP This DVD+VCR is equipped with a frequency synthesized tuner capable of receiving up to 181 channels. These include VHF channels 2-13, UHF channels 14-69 and CATV channels 1-125. Auto Channel Programming FUNCTION OSD Preparation The on-screen display can be turned on or off. AUDIO MODE 1. Choose the SOURCE SELECT option, then use b / B to select TUNER. Use b / B to switch among TUNER, LINE1, and LINE2. 2. Choose the AUTO CHANNEL SET option, then use b / B to find channels.

DVD 4:3 : Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. 16:9 : Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected. Display Mode Notes: • If you set Progressive Scan to ON in error, you must reset the DVD+VCR.
AUDIO DRC (Dynamic Range Control) Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set this unit’s AUDIO options according to the type of audio system you use. With the DVD format, you can hear a program’s soundtrack in the most accurate and realistic presentation possible, thanks to digital audio technology. However, you may wish to compress the dynamic range of the audio output (the difference between the loudest sounds and the quietest ones).
OTHERS REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTION The Auto Play, and B.L.E. settings can be changed. Remote Control A/B/C Code Switching The remote control is capable of controlling three JVC video units independently. Each of the units can respond to one of three codes (A, B or C). The remote control is preset to send C code signal because your unit is initially set to respond to C code signal. Operation This chapter describes how to operate the VCR and DVD. VCR Tape Pla ybac k Press the VCR button to select the device to be operated. Manual Tracking To manually adjust the tracking use the CH -/+ buttons during playback. Notes: • Vertical jitter requires a very fine adjustment. • Tracking is automatically reset to normal when the tape is ejected or the power cord is unplugged for more than 3 seconds. Slow Motion 1. While in still mode, press FF (M). The tape is played at a speed 1/19 times slower than the normal speed. 2. Use CH -/+ on the Remote Control if necessary to adjust the tracking. 3. To return to the normal speed, press PLAY (N). Notes: • During slow motion, audio is muted and horizontal lines • 2. Set the AUDIO OUTPUT option to STEREO so that the left channel sound (L) is heard from the left speaker and the right channel sound (R) is heard from the right speaker.
VCR Tape Recor ding Basic Instructions 1. Turn on the DVD+VCR and TV. 2. Tune the TV to the DVD+VCR output channel (CH 3 or 4) or if a direct VIDEO/AUDIO connection is made between the DVD+VCR and the TV, set the TV’s source selector to VIDEO. 3. Insert a video cassette with the safety tab intact. 4. Select the desired channel using CH -/+. 5. If you are recording from another source via audio/video input jacks (at the rear or front panel), select LINE1 or LINE2 using AUX, CH + or CH -. 6.
Channel: Select a TV channel, LINE1 or LINE2. If you have CABLE TV and use a cable box (converter) you must set the channel to match the cable box output channel (usually CH 3 or 4). Change channels on the cable box instead of with the DVD+VCR. If you use a cable converter, you can program multiple recordings only on the converter box output channel. This is because the converter determines what channel you view through your DVD+VCR.
Instant Timer Recording Extending the Recording Time With this feature you can record for a preset length without using the program timer. 1. Turn on DVD+VCR and the TV. The recording time can be extended anytime by pressing REC (z). Subsequent presses result in advancing the recording time by 30-minute increments. 2. Be sure the TV is tuned to the DVD+VCR output channel (CH 3 or 4). If a direct VIDEO/AUDIO connection is made between the DVD+VCR and the TV, set the TV’s source selector to VIDEO.
Copying from DVD to VCR Each press of ENTER/OK changes the TV screen in the following sequence. You can copy the contents of a DVD to a VHS tape. STOP 1. Insert the disc you wish to copy into the DVD deck and close the disc tray. CH 4 SP STEREO APR 30 , SAT 2. Insert a blank VHS video tape into the VCR deck. 2:15 PM 2:15 PM 3. Ad ditional VCR Inf ormation S-VHS Quasi Playback (SQPB) • During manual recording, timer recording, Instant Timer Recording, playback, or fast forward modes, the DVD+VCR automatically starts rewinding the tape at the end of the tape. The cassette stops at the beginning of the tape and is ejected. • This DVD+VCR can play back S-VHS recorded tapes, however, it cannot record video on S-VHS format. • SQPB is an abbreviation for S-VHS Quasi Playback.
Pla ying a DVD or Video CD General Features Playback Setup Note: 1. Turn on the TV and select the video input source connected to the DVD+VCR. Unless stated otherwise, all operations described use the Remote Control. Some features may also be available on the Setup menu. 2. Special DVD Features VCD Press A.MONITOR repeatedly during playback to hear a different audio channel (Stereo, Left, Right). Last Scene Memory DVD VCD CD This player memorizes last scene from the last disc that is viewed. The last scene remains in memory even if you remove the disc from the player or switch off the player. If you load a disc that has the scene memorized, the scene is automatically recalled.
On-Screen Display - DVD Maintenance and Ser vice You can display the general playback status on the TV screen. Some items can be changed using the menu. Repeat Programmed Tracks 1. Press REPEAT when playing a disc. The repeat icon appears. 2. Tr oub leshooting Check the following guide for the possible cause of a problem before contacting service. Cause Symptom No power. The power cord is disconnected.
