Congratulations, you have purchased the nest air lter that money can buy. With proper
care, this lter will last 1 million miles or more. This lter is a direct replacement for the
stock air lter, and no modications will be required. This air lter does not require a
specic installation procedure; however, if you do experience difculties with the t of your
K&N
®
air lter, check below for some common tips to help you. Everyone’s mechanical
ability is different; if you are unsure on how to correctly change your air lter please seek a
professional mechanic’s help.

• VerifythatyouhavethecorrectlterthatislistedintheK&N
®
catalogforyourmake,model,yearandenginesize.
Vehiclemanufacturerscanchangeairlterhousingsfromoneyeartothenextandfrommodeltomodel.Eventhough
theymayusethesameOEMairlter,theK&N
®
airlterthatwaslistedforoneyearormodelmaynottorsealcorrectly;
e.g.:FordTaurusSHOusesthesameOEMairlterasthe86-93MustangGT,buttheK&N
®
33-2015fortheMustangwill
notttheTaurusSHO.The1989-1995TaurusSHOmustuseaK&N
®
33-2040.
• Disconnectingtheairintaketubefromtheairboxlidcanmakeiteasiertomaneuverthelid.Someintaketubesare
veryrigidanddonotbendortwisteasily.
• SomeK&N
®
airltersneedtobeinstalledintotheairboxlidrst.Thisisduetothedifferenceinmanufacturing
techniquesofK&N
®
airlters.Wheninstallingthelterintothelid,holdtheairlterinplacewithyourindexngerswhile
re-installingtheairboxlid.Thishelpstopreventtheairlterfromfallingout.
• OncarslikesomeBMW’sandthePorscheBoxsterthatuseatraytypeairbox,holdtheairlterinplacewithyour
indexngerswhileinsertingthecartridgeintotheairlterhousingtopreventthelterfromfallingoutofthetray.Ifyour
vehiclehasthetraytypeairboxandyouhavetroublepushingthelidclosedtrylubricatingthebacksideofthetraywith
K&N
®
airltergreaseorequivalent.Thiswillreducethefrictionbetweentheairltertrayandtheairboxhousing.
• Alwaysmakesurethattheairlterisseatedintothegrooveonthelidandthatthelidisproperlyseatedontothe
airboxbase.Ifthelter,lidandbasearenotlinedupcorrectlyandyoutrytofastentheclipsorscrewsthatholdthe
twohalvestogetheryouwillmostlikelybreaktheairbox.Sometimesitwillhelpifyougentlyslidetheairboxlidfrom
sidetosidealongthesurfaceoftheairboxbaseuntilyoufeeltheairboxlidseatontothebase.Pleasenotethatthe
pressureneededtofastentheclipswithaK&N
®
airlterwillbeslightlymorethanwithanOEMtypethathasasoftfoam
seal.Ifthepressureneededseemsexcessiveoryouseetheairboxbendingexcessively-STOP and re-check your
installation.
• Sometimesthescrewsorclipsonanairboxcanfalloffwhenchangingorcleaninganairlter.Ifyoudonothaveallof
thescrewsorclips,theairltermightnotsealproperly,allowingdirtanddusttopassbytheairlterandgostraightinto
yourengine.Ifyouhavesomethataremissing,youshouldgetreplacementsfromyourdealership.
• Onairboxesthatuseatypeofhingetofastenonesideoftheairboxithelpstolightlycoatthesealingsurfacewith
airltergreaseorsiliconespray.Thisreducesthefrictionthatyoumightencounterwhenclosingtheairlterhousing.
Alwaysmakesurethatthetabsonthelidorbasearefullyseatedintotheslotsonthelidorbaseotherwisetheairbox
couldpopopenwhiledriving.
• Vehiclesusedinseveredustconditions(mostofthesouthwesternstates)willbenetfromagenerousapplicationof
K&N
®
airltersealinggreaseonthelterssealingsurfaceforextraprotection.
• Somevehiclesareequippedwithacharcoalbarrierthatisrivetedorotherwisebuiltintotheairbox.Thisbarriermay
looklikeasecondaryairlter,butitisactuallypartoftheemissionssystemandshouldnotberemoved.ThisK&N
