Run cold and hot water through the shower arm for several minutes to flush out dirt and debris. Install the showerhead as shown. Secure the showerhead to the shower arm using a clean wrench. Pivot the showerhead to verify smooth operation. Run water through the showerhead to check for leaks between the shower arm and showerhead inlet. Adjust as needed.

Shower Arm INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INSTALL THE SHOWER ARM Finished Wall Pipe Nipple Shower Arm Thread Sealant Adapter 1/2" (13 mm) Hex Wrench Apply plumbers putty. Shower Arm Install a male 1/2″ NPT pipe to extend 1/2″ (13 mm) beyond the finished wall. Apply sealant tape to the exposed threads of the pipe nipple. Apply a bead of plumbers putty or other sealant to the back of the shower arm according to the putty manufacturer’s instructions. Thread the shower arm to the pipe nipple.

ADJUST THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY Spline Adapter Valve Stem Adapter Handle Assembly Ensure the valve stem adapter is lightly placed over the spline adapter. Place the handle assembly over the valve stem adapter. Turn the handle clockwise until the stop is contacted. The valve will be in the full cold position. The handle should be between 9 and 10 o’clock positions. To adjust the position of the handle, refer to the alignment instructions below.

Secure the valve stem adapter to the valve with the correct length screw, as selected in the “Install the Valve Stem Adapter” section of this guide. Thread the two studs into the threaded holes of the valve. Place the front plate assembly over the studs.

Install Support Framing (cont.) NOTE: When installing the P29512 valve, use 3/4″ nominal copper tubing and fittings throughout this installation. Smaller diameter piping upstream or downstream of the valve will reduce performance of the valve. Determine the desired location for the valve according to the roughing-in information, and construct suitable stud and support framing for your configuration and valve.
To Showerhead For finished wall thicknesses less than 3/16" (5 mm), install 1/2" (13 mm) plywood backing behind cutout. Hot Supply Cold Supply To Bath Spout/Volume Control Cap outlet if not used. Install the Valve NOTICE: Risk of product damage. This valve contains plastic and rubber components. Do not sweat or braze directly to the valve body. Do not apply excessive heat to the valve body when you make solder connections.
Install the Valve (cont.) NOTE: If the existing hot and cold plumbing makes this configuration inconvenient or if it is advantageous to reverse the hot and cold ports (such as back-to-back installations), see the ″Reverse the Inlet Supplies″ section. Connect the water outlet lines to the valve ports. Plug any unused outlet port. IMPORTANT! Secure the piping to the framing.
Supply Stops Seal Cartridge Seal Nut Remove cartridge and rotate 180˚. Reverse the Inlet Supplies The inlet connections are indicated on the inlet ports of the thermostatic valve assembly. Left is HOT and right is COLD. If this configuration is not suitable for your installation, the cartridge may be rotated 180° to reverse the hot and cold inlet ports. NOTE: Refer to the Homeowners Guide for integral supply stop operation.
Reverse the Inlet Supplies (cont.) NOTE: Some water may be released. Use a bucket and towels to contain the water. Pull the head nut with the cartridge out of the valve body. NOTE: Two seals may fall out when the cartridge is removed. Set the seals aside. Rotate the cartridge 180°. Verify the cold cartridge inlet is on the left when the valve stem adapter is facing you. NOTE: The hot and cold cartridge inlets are identified on the top and sides of the cartridge tabs.
Increase Temperature Spline Adapter Decrease Temperature Check the Temperature Setting NOTE: The thermostatic valve cartridge is calibrated at the factory for a shower temperature of approximately 104°F (40°C) to 105°F (41°C) and a maximum hot temperature of 120°F (49°C). Turn the water on. Attach a trim handle or plaster guard onto the valve spline adapter. Turn the valve spline adapter fully counterclockwise so the trim handle or plaster guard can no longer move.
Check the Temperature Setting (cont.) If the water temperature is less than 104°F (40°C) to 105°F (41°C) or is more than desired, proceed to the ″Adjust the Shower Temperature″ section. If both settings are correct, fill out the ″Notice to Homeowners″ section of this Homeowners Guide.

NOTE: Keep the detent collar off while making adjustments. Turn the valve stem fully counterclockwise. Using the volume control valve (not shown), turn on the water. Allow the water to flow for several minutes until the water temperature stabilizes.

Do not remove the collar; allow it to hang from the cartridge. If the detent collar is not installed: Loosely position the detent collar over the cartridge, ensuring the collar does not engage the cartridge teeth.
Adjust the Shower Temperature (cont.) NOTE: While rotating the detent collar, small in-and-out adjustments will be required to ensure the collar does not engage the cartridge teeth. Use the detent collar to rotate the spline adapter. While rotating the collar and spline adapter, monitor the water outlet temperature. When the temperature reaches 104-105°F (40-40.5°C), push the detent collar in until it engages the teeth of the cartridge.

ADJUST THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY Spline Adapter Valve Stem Adapter Handle Assembly Ensure the valve stem adapter is lightly placed over the spline adapter. Place the handle assembly over the valve stem adapter. Turn the handle counterclockwise until the valve is fully closed. The handle should be in the vertical, 6 o’clock position. Remove the handle assembly and set aside.

Screw Screw Valve Stem Adapter Ensure the valve stem adapter is firmly pressed onto the valve stem. Secure the valve stem adapter to the valve with the correct length screw, as selected in the “Install the Valve Stem Adapter” section of this guide. Align the holes on the front plate assembly and the valve. NOTE: Be sure to select the correct length screw for your application.

Before You Begin (cont.) Inspect the waste and supply tubing; replace if necessary.
Plaster Guard Max Finished Wall 2-9/16" (65 mm) 3-3/4" (95 mm) Min Finished Wall Inlet Mixed Water Supply 3/4" Copper Tubing or Piping 1. Prepare the Site Provide a 2-7/8″ (73 mm) to 3-1/8″ (79 mm) diameter hole in the wall material for the plaster guard. Route a 3/4″ mixed water supply line to the transfer valve location. Apply sealant tape to the inlet port threads. Connect the water supply to the transfer valve inlet.
Accessory Water Lines 1/2" Copper Tubing or Piping Mixed Water Supply 3/4" Copper Tubing or Piping 2. Installation for 3-Way IMPORTANT! Do not remove the internal plug from the valve body. The plug connects the left and right ports, allowing either to be used for an additional accessory. Install 1/2″ copper tubing or piping for all accessories. Securely fasten the piping and outlet elbows to the framing.
Accessory #2 Water Line Accessory #1 Water Line Spacer Internal Plug E-Ring Missing Tooth Detent Plaster Guard 1/2" NPT Plug 3. Installation for 2-Way IMPORTANT! This valve is not intended to be used as a shut-off valve. Complete the 2-way conversion before plugging any outlets. 2-Way Conversion Temporarily remove the plaster guard. Rotate the detent until positioned vertically. Verify that the missing tooth is oriented up.
Installation for 2-Way (cont.) Install temporary 1/2″ nipples in the outlet elbows so they extend a minimum of 2″ (51 mm) beyond the finished wall. IMPORTANT! When testing P29513 operation, water should flow as follows: Accessory 1, Accessories 1 and 2, Accessory 2. If water flows as: Accessory 2, Accessory 2, Accessories 1 and 2; you will need to remove the spacer, rotate the detent 180 degrees, then reinstall the spacer.
