Where:
L: Expected life
Lo: Life at maximum permissible operating temperature with rated operating voltage applied (hours)
T: Actual operating temperature
To: Maximum permissible operating temperature
The effect of derating temperature can be seen in this graph.
In this example, the life expectancy of a 2,000 hour polymer capacitor is signicantly greater than that of a 2,000 hour
standard electrolytic capacitor.
