Selective Soldering Recommendations
Selectivedipsolderingisavariationofreowsoldering.Inthismethod,theprintedcircuitboardwiththrough-hole
componentstobesolderedispreheatedandtransportedoverthesolderbath,asinnormal-owsoldering,withouttouching
thesolder.Whentheboardisoverthebath,itisstopped.Pre-designedsolderpotsareliftedfromthebathwithmolten
solder only at the places of the selected components, and then pressed against the lower surface of the board to solder
the components.
Thetemperatureproleforselectivesolderingissimilartothetemperatureprolefordouble-waveowsolderingoutlinedin
this document. However, instead of two baths, there is only one with a time from 3 to 10 seconds. In selective soldering, the
riskofoverheatingisgreaterthanindouble-waveowsoldering,andgreatcaremustbetakensothatthepartsdo
not overheat.
