Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve
AWARNING
At the time of manufacturethiswater heater was provided
witha combinationtemperature-pressuresrelief valvecertified
bya nationally recognized testinglaboratorythat maintains
_eriodicinspectionof productionof listedequipmentor mate-
rials, as meeting the requirements for Relief Valves and
AutomaticGasShutoffDevicesforHot Water SupplySystems,
and the latest editionof ANSI Z21.22 and the code require-
mentsofASME. If replaced, the valvemustmeet the require-
mentsoflocalcodes,but not lessthan a combinationtempera"
ture and pressurerelief valvecertifiedas meetingthe require-
mentsfor ReliefValvesandAutomaticGasShutoffDevicesfor

nized testinglaboratorythat maintainsperiodicinspectionof

The valvemustbe markedwith a maximum setpressurenot
to exceedthe marked hydrostaticworking pressureof the
water heater(150 IbsJsq.in.)anda dischargecapacitynot less
than the water heaterinputrate ..as.shownonthe model rating
plate.(Electric heaters- watts dlvtdedby 1000x 3415 equal
BTU/Hr.rate.)
Yourlocaljurisdictionalauthority,whilemandatingthe useof a
temperature-pressurerelief valvecomplyingwithANSI Z21.22
and ASME, mayrequirea valvemodel differentfrom the one
furnishedwiththe waterheater.
Compliancewith suchlocalrequirements mustbe satisfiedby
the installeror enduserof the water heaterwith a locallypre-
scribedtemperature-pressure relief valveinstalledin the desig-
natedopeningin the water heaterin placeof the factory fur-
nishedvalve.
Forsafeoperationof the water heater, the relief valvemustnot
be removedfromit'sdesignatedopeningor plugged.
The temperature-pressurerelief valvemustbe installeddirectly

Mustnot haveanyvalvebetweentherelief valveandtank.
AWARNING
The temperature-pressure relief valve must be manually
operated at least once a yea_ Caution shouldbe taken to
ensurethat (I) no one is in front of or aroundthe outlet of
the temperature-pressure relief valvedischargeline,and (2)
the water manually discharged will not causeany bodily
injury or property damage because the water may be
extremely hot.
If after manually operatingthe valve, it failsto completely
reset and continuesto release water, immediatelyclosethe
cold water inlet to the water heater, follow the draining
instructions,and replace the temperature-pressure relief
valvewith a new one.
