Change settings Acknowledge selected menu item using PRINT button, the current setting is displayed. Each time the navigation buttons are pressed the next setting will be displayed.
12.1 Parts counting Before the balance can count parts, it must know the average part weight (i.e. reference). Proceed by putting on a certain number of the parts to be counted. The balance determines the total weight and divides it by the number of parts, the socalled reference quantity. Counting is then carried out on the basis of the calculated average piece weight. As a rule: The higher the reference quantity the higher the counting exactness. 12.1.
If necessary place a weighing container, confirm the set reference piece number by pressing the PRINT button. Place as many pieces to add-up as required by the set reference piece number. Acknowledge using PRINT button and wait for stability display. As soon as the weighing result is stable, the determined average piece weight will be taken over as reference weight. The currently placed weight „W“, the reference weight „MPW“ and the piece number „PCS“ are displayed. Remove reference weight.
If it was impossible to determine a reference due to instable goods to be weighed or an insufficient reference weight, the following display will appear during reference calculation. Smallest counting weight not achieved Increase the counted weight or select a balance with high resolution or If in the display “Add pieces…..“ appears, the balance asks for a reference optimisation, as the placed number of pieces was not sufficient for a correct reference calculation.
Carry out parts counting After having calculated the reference, place the pieces which will be counted. The currently placed weight „G“, the reference weight „AUW“ and the calculated piece number „St.“ are displayed. The display value can be printed out by connecting an optional printer.
12.1.2 Numeric entry of the reference weight If the piece weight (reference) is known, it can be entered directly. As the balance in this method needs not to calculate any reference, the balance after confirming the reference piece weight will be directly in parts counting mode. In weighing mode press MENU button. The master menu will be displayed. Use the navigation buttons to select the menu item „Piece counting“. Acknowledge using PRINT button, the currently set reference quantity is displayed.
12.1.3 Automatic reference optimization In order to improve the counting exactness, the reference can be optimised by adding more pieces. At every reference optimisation, the reference weight is calculated anew. As the additional pieces increase the base for the calculation, the reference also becomes more exact. Leave the piece number on the weighing pan after setting the reference weight Duplicate the number of pieces on the weighing pan and wait until the acoustic signal sounds.
12.2 Density determination (Hydrostatic weighing) Density is the relationship of weight [g] : volume [cm3]. The weight is determined by weighing the sample in air. The volume results from the ascending force [g] of the sample dipped in a liquid. The density [g/cm3] of that liquid is known (principle of Archimedes). The density is determined with help of the underfloor weighing device. We recommend to switch off the automatic adjustment in the setup menu, see chap. 11.12. 12.2.
Suspend sample with suspension device at the flush-mounted hook. Wait for stability display, take over the weight value using PRINT button. The display for determination of the "sample in water“ appears. Immerse the sample without bubbles developing. Make sure that the sample does not touch the beaker. Wait for stability display, take over the weight value using PRINT button. The density of the sample is shown.
When an optional printer is connected, the displayed value can be edited using PRINT. Printout example (KERN YKB-01N): 07-09-11 11:14:57 d: 8.0700 g/cm3 If at the density determination errors have appeared, „d-----„ is displayed. 1. Back to density determination mode, press MENU button. 2. Back to weighing mode, press ON/OFF button.
Density table of water: * the asterisk means that the cipher left from the comma is reduced by 1. Table from "Mass determination" by M. Kochsiek, M.
12.2.2 Determining density of liquids For density determination of liquids, a sinker with known density is used (optionally available). The sinker is weighed first in air and then in the liquid whose density is to be determined. From the weight difference results the buoyancy from where the software calculates the density. Preparation: Fill sample liquid into a vessel, e.g. a pitcher. Heat sample liquid until temperature is constant.
Suspend sinker with suspension device at the flush-mounted hook. Wait for stability display, take over the weight value using PRINT button. The display for weight determination of the "Sinker in sample liquid“ appears. Immerse the sample without bubbles developing. Make sure that the sample does not touch the beaker. Wait for stability display, take over the weight value using PRINT button. The density of the sample is shown.
If at the density determination errors have appeared, „d-----„ is displayed. When an optional printer is connected, the displayed value can be edited using PRINT. Printout example (KERN YKB-01N): 07-09-11 11:14:57 3 d : 0.9984 g/cm 1. Back to density determination mode, press MENU button. 2. Back to weighing mode, press ON/OFF button.
