sure
by
visual
inspec

tion

the
snap-hook
freel
y
engages
the
D-ring
and
that
the
keeper
is
cl
osed
completel
y
after
each
hook-up.
Also,
ha
ve
a
co-w
orker
chec
k
f
or
pr
oper
attachment.

e
the
Wire
Pigtail
Anchorage
Connector
f
or
the
per
imeter
of
the
str
uctural
member
.
Deter
mine
and
use
the
proper
length
f
or
the
job
.
If
non-
standard
connector
lengths
are
required,
contact

Wrap the pigtail cab
le end around an aer
ial boom, I-beam, or
similar
str
uctural
member
which
has
been
deter
mined
to
be
a
suitab
le
f
all-arrest
anchorage
by
a
competent
person,
as
deter
mined
by
OSHA,
at
the
job
site
.
Attach
the
eye
at
th
e
end
of
the
cab
le
bac
k
onto
the
loc
king
snap-hook
on
the
pigtail
end
of
the
lan
y
ard.
Ne
v
er
solely
rely
on
the
f
eel
or
sound
in
attempting
to
deter
mine
that
a
snap-hook
is
engaged.
Make
sure
by
visual
inspection
that
the
snap-
hook
freel
y
engages
the
ey
e
and
that
the
keeper
is
cl
osed
completel
y
after
each
hook-up.
NO
TE:
The
fall-arrest
anchorage
m
ust
suppor
t
a
minim
um
of
5,000
lbs.
(22.2kN)
per
attached

orker
and
be
independent
of

orker
suppor
t.
Use
only

nesses
meeting
OSHA
standards

ll-arrest
.
OSHA
requires
that
impact

orce
in
a

all

xceed

with
a

s.
At
a
giv
en
weight,
the
longer
the
free

all,
the
greater
the
resulting
impact
f
orce
.
Theref
ore
,
minimiz

the

all-arrest
connecting

e
or
use
a
deceleration
unit
to
sta
y
under
1,800
lbs
.

4.
If
the
cab
le
pigtail
will
not
wrap
around
the
anchorage
and
freely
engage
the
loc
king
snap-hook,
do
not
attach
it to the lan
y
ard.
Instead obtain a lan
y
ard with a longer pigtail
or
use
alter
nativ
e
methods
of
f
all-arrest
protection,
selected
by
a
competent
person
at
the
job
site
.

boom,
I-beam,
or
structural
member
. I
t
is
NO
T
intended
to
be
used
that

and
could
result
in
serious
injury
or
death.
5.
Rig
to

oid
contact
with
structures

the

vent
of
a
fall.
The
free-f
all
distance
must
not
e
xceed
6 f
eet (1.8m).
If using a deceleration unit, add 3-1/2 f
eet (1m)
to
the
free-f
all
distance
to
allo
w

r
unit
e
xtension.

Finally

the
entire
system

connection.

It
is
imperative
that
a
competent
per
son,
as
defined
by
OSHA,
select
OPE
system
components
to
fit
the
specific
job
requirements.
Incorrect
component
choices
can
cause
serious
injury
or
death.
Whene
ver
there
is
a
risk
of
a
fall,
a
per
sonal
fall-arrest
pr
otection
system
m
ust
be
used.
Theref
ore,
when
w
orking
at
an
ele
v
ated
position,
al
wa
ys
attach
the
fall-arrest
D-ring
in
the
bac
k
of
the
fall-arrest
harness
to
an
appr
o
ved
fall-arrest
anchorage
with
a
suitable
lan
ya
rd
or
other
connecting
de
vice
.
When
that
is
not
possible,
use
alternative
fall-arrest
pr
otection.
