BELT REPLACEMENT
Beforeperformingany typeof maintenanceonthemachine,waitfor
all partsto stopmovinganddisconnectthe sparkplugwire.Failure
to followthis instructioncouldresultinpersonalinjuryor property
damage.
Ifthedrivebelt needstobe replaced,makesureyou useonlya factory
authorizedbelt listedin the Partspagesof thisoperator'smanual,as an
"over-the-counter"beltmaynotperformsatisfactorily.Theprocedure
requiresaveragemechanicalabilityandcommonlyavailabletools.
Toreplacethe Drivebelt,followthesesteps:
7. Removethebelt coverfromthe leftsideof the tillerby removing
the twoselftappingscrewsandhexstopnutandwasher.See
Figure25.

Removetheidlerpulleybolt andmovethe beltfromunderthe
idlerpulleykeeper.SeeFigure26.
9. Removethe belt keeperassemblylocatedbehindtheengine
pulleyby removingthe twohex boltsand lockwashers.See
Figure26.
10. Removethe oldbeltfromaroundthe transmissionpulleyand
installthe newbelt. SeeFigure26.
11. Followthe instructionsinreverseorderto re-installthe belt keeper
and idlerpulley.
NOTE:Uponreassembly,makecertainthattheidlerpulleykeeperisas
shownin Figure26.Takenoted thenotchonthe bottomof thekeeper
andthealignmentwhenreassemblingwiththereplacementbelt.
NOTE;Afterre-installingthebelt,double-checkthe cableadjustment.
Referto theAssemblysectionfor instructionsonadjustingthe cable.
TINES
The tineswillwearwithuse andshouldbeinspectedat thebeginning
of each tillingseasonandafterevery30operatinghours.Thetines
can be replaced.Referto the PartsListsectionof this manualfor part
numbers.
Tine Inspection
Withuse,the tineswill becomeshorter,narrowerandpointed.Badly
worntineswill resultina lossoftillingdepth,and reducedeffective-
nesswhenchoppingup andturningunderorganicmatter.
Removing/Installing a Tine Assembly
1. A fine assemblyconsistsof a left handtine anda righthandfine.
NOTE:The sharpedgesof thetinesare positionedto enterthe soil
first whenrotating.Notethispositionof thetinesfor reinstallationofthe
newfineassemblies.

To removea fineassembly,simplyremovethe cotterpinsecuring
the clevispinfor eachtine.SeeFigure27.
Removethe clevispinforeachfine,andslidethe assemblyto the
outsideof the unit andoffof the fine shaft.
Beforereinstallingthe tine assembly,inspectthefine shaftfor
rust,roughspotsor burrs.Lightlyfile or sand,as needed.Applya
thin coatofgreaseto the shaft.
Installeachfine of the assemblyso thatthecutting(sharp)edge
of the tineswillenterthe soilfirst whenthe tillermovesforward.
