Animation
ha
s a wide
variety
of
applications.
It
is
used
in
television
com
mer
cials,
in
travelogues
to
trace
th
e
path
of
travel
across
a
map,
in
graphs,
in titles,
in
the
assembly
or
disassembly
of
man
ufac-
tur
ed
products,
etc.
Anim
ation
is accomplished
with
single-
frame
ex-
posur
es
as
follows:

Although
th
e ex
posur
e is
about
1/35
second
wh
en
the
camera
is
operating
at
16
frames
per
second,
the single
frame
is ex

sed
at
about

This
admits
twice as
much
lig
ht
as
when the
camera
is
continuously
operated
at
speed 16.
To
compensate
for
thi
s expos
ur
e, close
the
lens one
opening;
for
ex-
ample, f

to
f / 11. Best results will
be
obtained
if
the
release is u
sed
only when
th
e
motor
is fully
wound.

To
give movement to the
subject,
expose a single
frame,
move the s

Th

number
of frames to
be
exposed will
depend
upon
(1)
th
e speed
at

hich
you
intend
to
project
th
e
film
and
(2)
the
leng
th
of
time
th
e action is
to

st
on
th
e screen.
For
exam
pl
e:
If
th
e ac
tion
is
to
last 5
seconds on
the
screen,
and
yo
ur
projection
speed is
16
frames
per
second,
you
will have
to
expose
80
frames
(5
x
16).

The
growth
of a flower
to
full bloom,
rapid
movement
of
street
traffic,
cloud
formations
for
an
entire
day,
can
be
shown
in
a few
seconds'
proj
ection. Expose
one
fram
e
at
time
int
er
-
vals
which
will
produce
th
e
desired
effects.
