Th e first a nd most imp or tant thin g for the amateur to bear
in mind is th at the light which serves to impr ess the photogr ap hic
image upon the sensitive film in a small fraction of a second
when it comes throu gh th e lens, can destroy the film as quickly
as it m akes the picture. Until it has b ee n deve loped and fixed,
th erefore, th e film must n eve r be ex po sed to white lig ht for eve n
a fraction of a
sec ond, (this includes gas light, lamplight, etc., )
or it will be ruined. Throughout all th e operations of lo ad ing
and unloading be ex trem ely careful to k eep the black pap er
wound tightly a round th e film to prev e nt the admission of light.
