HANDLING CAUTIONS FOR THE IMAGE V + Battery performance decreases with lower operating temperatures. When photographing in cold weather, we recommend that you keep the camera and spare batteries inside your coat to keep them warm when you are not shooting. Ni cad batteries perform better than other types in cold temperatures. Cold batteries will regain some of their charge when they warm up. + Remove the batteries from the camera when not in use for long periods. Damage may result if battery leakage occurs.

ATTACHING THE HAND STRAP insert the smaller loop of the strap through the strap eyelet. HE Put the other end of the strap through the small loop as shown.
EER This camera requires 4 AA size batteries. Either Alkaline or Ni cad batteries can be used. « Ni cad batteries must be fully charged in the appropriate charger, as indicated in the battery instruction manual. + Do not mix battery types. HW Open the card/battery chamber cover as shown. Insert the batteries as indicated in the diagram on the camera. + Insert © and @ first, making sure the contacts are touching.
BATTERY-CONDITION INDICATOR When the battery power is low, dl will blink in the LCD monitor. Replace all 4 batteries or use the AC Adapter AC-V {sold separately). «Do not use adapters other than the AC-V. «The battery power will run out completely without further warning. AUTO POWER OFF = To save power, the camera shuts off automatically if it is not used for 2 minutes (Auto Power Off). To restart the camera, press the main switch to turn the camera on.
ADJUSTING THE LCD BRIGHTNESS The DiMaggio V is equipped with a quick-responding LCD monitor that has an excellent range of viewing angles. The LCD monitor brightness can be adjusted to compensate for varying lighting conditions and viewing angles. Hl Press the main switch to aloe turn the camera on. SELECTING IMAGE QUALITY Storing uncompressed still-image files normally requires a large amount of disk space. This usually results in small recording capacity on the image memory cards. The DiMaggio V uses JPEG compression (an international standard) to compress the image data before it is recorded on the image memory card. .

Auto Flash The flash will fire in low light or backbit situations. 5 A Use this mode for general photographic situations. Marla Fill Flash The flash will fire every time the shutter-release button is pressed, regardless of lighting conditions. 3 Use this mode when there are harsh shadows on the subject. Flash Cancel The flash will not fire.
"REMOVING IMAGE MEMORY CARL | Turn the camera off. Always turn off the camera before removing an image memory card! Data on the card will be lost or damaged if it is removed while the camera is on. Open the card/battery chamber. Pull the image memory card straight out. + To protect the contact area, store the card in its anti-static case and place it in its protective plastic case. H Close the card/battery chamber cover and slide it shut until it clicks.

MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY The Macro Photography function allows you to fill the frame with a business-card size object. The minimum focus distance in Macro mode is Sem (2 in). 7-1 H Slide the zoom lever to 7] MACRO until it clicks into place. H Frame the image in the LCD monitor, then press the shutter-release button. «The focus range is from approximately Som 8.5cm in).
Hl Secure the camera on a tripod. Open the back cover, then press the self timer button « The self-timer mark will appear on the monitor. HA Frame the image in the LCD monitor, then press the shutter-release button. « The self-timer lamp on the front of the camera will start blinking. A countdown indicator will appear on the monitor. « The shutter will release approximately 10 seconds after the shutter-release button is pressed.
The exposure can be adjusted to make the image appear lighter or darker. Exposure can be adjusted in increments Before recording the image, press either the + or — button to change the exposure. + A bar will appear on the LCD while you set the exposure. The bar indicates the new exposure level. + After setting the exposure level a or [= mark will appear on the information bar. Frame the image in the LCD monitor, then press the shutter-release button.
PHOTOGRAPHING YOURSELF The Dimmed V lens unit rotates from +90° to -90°. This function allows you to photograph yourself while looking at the LCD monitor. i Rotate the lens unit 90° backwards until it stops. «The image on the monitor will be right-side-up, but backwards (as if you are looking in a mirror). « If the image appears up-side down on the monitor, the lens unit has not been fully rotated to -90°. Frame yourself in the LCD monitor, then press the shutter-release button.
eee With the Lens Extension Cable LC-V100 the lens unit can be detached from the camera and used to photograph from a variety of angles. Turn the camera off before attaching or detaching the lens unit. DETACHING THE LENS UNIT = { LE ATTACHING THE LE °= H Slide the lens unit release lever in the direction indicated. Slide the lens unit up and then away from the camera. NS EXTENSION CABLE Hl Detach the lens unit. Match-up the two notches on the camera with the two notches on the lens extension cable.
_ INTENSIFICATION =~ 44 Push the connector of the lens extension cable down until it clicks. Bl Match-up the three notches on the lens unit with the three notches on the lens extension cable. Gently put them together as shown. H Slide the lens unit down until it clicks.
To record images with the lens extension cable attached, follow the instructions in Basic Recording on pages 31-33. Point the lens at the subject while looking at the LCD monitor and press the shutter release button to record. The flash can be used with the lens extension cable attached. Turn the cable connector that is attached to the camera all the way forward 90°. « The flash will not fire if the connector is not in the standard lens position.
LENS giro [oI : oo DETACHING THE LENS EXTENSION CABLE Hl Slide the release lever on the lens unit cable's connector until it clicks. Next, slide the connector up and then left as shown. There are two options available in Play made; viewing one image at a time {Single Frame Display) or viewing 9 images at once (Index Display). Pressing the display button in Play mode will change the display in the following sequence. Pl] 570. @ | 196.10.
| SINGLE FRAME DISPLAY Single Frame Display allows recorded images to be viewed individually with or without the image information. Insert an image memory card into the camera, following the instructions on page 29, if one is not in the camera already. To view an image immediately after recording it, start at step A. fl Press the main switch to turn the camera on. af] mor) Slide the record/play switch to PLAY. + The last image recorded will appear.
SINGLE FRAME DISPLAY When the image on the screen is the last-recorded image (last frame) and the + button is pressed, the frame that will appear is the first recorded image (first frame). When the first frame is on the screen and the button is pressed the last frame will appear. Example: 15 frames on the image memory card.
EEE The LCD can display an index of nine frames. Using the Index Display allows you to quickly search for an image. This function is particularly useful when searching for images to delete or protect (see pages 58 and 62). Frame numbers are displayed in the manual for example purposes. Frame numbers are not displayed in the index Display on the camera. fl Press the display button to switch from Single Frame Display to Index Display.
_ INDEX DISPLAY Press either the + or — button to select an image. + The + button moves the cursor to the next frame. The — moves the cursor to the previous frame. « Press and hold the button to continually scroll the cursor. + When the cursor reaches the bottom-right frame and the + button is pressed, the next nine images will appear. + When the cursor Is at the top-left frame and the — button is pressed, the previous nine images will appear.
Press the display button when the desired image is selected with the cursor. « A single frame display of the image will appear on the LCD monitor.
One index display screen holds nine images (one "page"). When changing from Single Image Display to Index Display, the page containing the image that was last viewed will appear. In the example below: Image number 7 is on the monitor when the display button is pressed. The screen changes to the index display and the page with image 7 appears on the screen. there are no more images to display, the remaining frames on the page will be represented by a blue screen.
This section explains how to remove images from the image memory card. There are three types of image removal: DELETE removes a singe, selected image (page 58). CLEAR removes all unprotected images on the card (page 60). FORMAT initializes the card and removes all the images (page 64).

CLEARING UNPROTECTED IMAGES Clearing removes all unprotected images from the Smart Media in the camera (see page 62 for information on protecting images). Press the main switch to turn the camera on. Ea ea Important images can be write-protected to guard them from accidental deleting. Protected images cannot be removed from the image memory card by using the Delete or Clear functions. CAUTION: Protected images will be removed when the FORMAT function is used. Press the main switch to ® turn the camera on. "FORMATTING MEMORY CARDS Formatting the image memory card removes all protected and unprotected images from the card. The standard accessory image memory cards come formatted. Smart Media cards purchased separately need to be formatted before using them for the first time. i Insert the image memory card. Follow the procedure on page 29. H Tum the camera on. Flip down the back cover and press the clear/format button. +The display-on the monitor gives two options; Clear and Format.

For more information, please contact your camera dealer, PC dealer, or a Minolta Service Facility. + Image Memory Card RM-2 (2MB) This is the standard-accessory memory card. One RM-2 is included in the Image V package. * Image Memory Card RM-4 (4MB) This memory card has twice the capacity of the standard accessory memory card, It records approximately 32 images in ding mode and approximately 80 in standard mode.
Refer to these pages to determine the cause of a problem you are experiencing with your camera. If the information does not cover the protein which you are experiencing or the condition continues, contact your nearest Minolta Service Facility. No image appears in the LCD monitor. » The camera is turned off. Press the main switch to turn the camera on. * The batteries are exhausted. CLEANING = If the camera or lens unit is dirty, gently wipe it with a soft, clean, dry cloth. If the camera or lens comes in contact with sand, gently blow away loose particles, wiping may scratch the surface. * To clean the lens surface, first brush away any dust or blow away sand then, If necessary, moisten a lens tissue with lens cleaning fluid and gently wipe the lens. + Never use organic solvents to clean the camera.
LCD MONITOR CARE * The LCD monitor is a precision device with a pixel efficiency of 99.98%. Less than 0.02% of the pixels are dysfunctional. * Do not apply pressure on the surface of the LCD monitor. Permanent damage may occur. « In low temperatures, the LCD monitor will temporarily darken. When the camera warms-up, normal display will be restored. » If the + or buttons are pressed rapidly during playback, images may appear to overlap. This is normal and the image data is not changed.
