Introduction Getting Ready to Play Using headphones Using a USB flash drive Connect the stereo mini plug of a pair of commercially available headphones to the headphones jack on the rear panel. The headphone jack will output the same signal as the OUTPUT L/ MONO and R jacks. To use a commercially-available USB flash drive, turn off the power on the i3 and plug the flash drive into the USB TO DEVICE port on the rear panel.

You can use the equalizer to adjust the tonal character of the i3’s sound as you like. The HIGH knob affects the high-frequency range, and the LOW knob affects the low-frequency range. This lets you play the sound of the grand piano in sound set 001 over the entire keyboard. The sound select screen will be displayed. 2 1 Sound no. Performance Mode Changing the sound set settings 13 Changing the sound set settings You can freely change the settings of a sound set that you have selected. Here, we will try making changes to the content of a sound set so that it matches the settings you like. 2. Use the dial, +/– button and CATEGORY t, u buttons to select the sound set you want to play. Press the CATEGORY t, u buttons to switch the sound between different categories.
Performance Mode Changing the sound set settings Making the lower part recognize chords only (split hold) When split hold is on, the range of the lower part will be used only for specifying chords in a style (auto-accompaniment), and these keys will not make a sound when you play them. yy Hold down the SOUND SET button and press the LOWER/ SPLIT button. (The button will light up red.) “Split Hold “On”” will appear on the display.
Performance Mode Changing the sound set settings Changing how the effect is applied This changes the how effects 1 and 2 are applied (specifically, their send levels). These settings can be set for each keyboard part (lower, upper 1–3). 1. Press the EFFECT button. Effect 1 can be set. To set effect 2, press the CATEGORY u button to display the effect 2 settings screen. 1 2 2 2. To change how the effect is applied, turn the dial while holding down the button of the keyboard part you want to set.
Performance Mode Using the set lists Using the set lists You can save your favorite settings (sound sets, styles, tempo, effects, etc.) together as a set list. This also allows you to quickly recall your favorite settings. There are ten banks of set lists (A–J), and five settings can be saved in each bank (for a total of 50 types). The recommended set lists are stored in locations 1–5 of banks A–C by default. Recalling a set list 1. Press the BANK (WRITE) button a number of times to select the bank.

The i3 features accompaniment patterns in many different styles. The sounds used by styles consist of eight parts (bass, drums, percussion and other parts 1–5). These are called “accompaniment parts.” The i3 features 270 different styles, divided into 16 categories.

To enable this feature, set “Tap Auto Start” (page 26) in Setting mode to “Enable.” 3. yy Locking the tempo (tempo lock) You can change styles without changing the tempo. To enable this feature, set “Style Tempo Lock” (page 26) in the Setting mode to “On.
Performance Mode 19 Changing the Style Settings Changing the Style Settings You can freely change the settings of the styles you select. Feel free to change the style settings to match your preferences. The changes you have made will revert to their default state once you turn off the power. To keep your settings intact, save them in a set list (page 16).
Changing the Style Settings Adjusting the volume balance between the keyboard and accompaniment parts You can adjust the volume balance between the keyboard and accompaniment parts as you like. yy To make the keyboard part softer: Turn the dial to the left while holding down the SOUND SET button. yy To make the accompaniment part softer: Turn the dial to the right while holding down the SOUND SET button.
Performance Mode 21 Recording your performance Recording your performance You can record your playing along with the auto-accompaniment as MIDI data (user song). You can also easily connect a USB flash drive to record your performance as audio data (WAV format). You can record your performance on the i3 at any time as audio data (a WAV file), regardless of what mode the i3 is in. Note: You will need to connect a USB flash drive to the i3 in Recording as MIDI data order to record audio.

Playing a song You can play the keyboard while a song is playing back. Try playing back different songs and playing along. 1. Other settings Appendix Appendix Checking the software version 1. Hold down the EXIT (SHIFT) button and press the power button. When the i3 starts up, the display will show the software version. 2. Turn off the power, and then turn it on again. Restoring the i3 to factory-set default settings This restores the settings of the “i3 to their factory-set defaults. Note that this will reset all of your set lists, user songs and the settings you have made in Setting mode.
Other settings The pitch is off. Is the transpose function set correctly? Has “MasterTuning” in Setting mode been set correctly, as well as the keyboard part’s octave and other parameters? Is the scale set correctly? Check the settings for “Upper Scale Type” (page 26), “Style Scale Type” (page 26) in Setting mode. I hear unwanted noise. When the volume for a part is raised, the digital signal processing may overload the signal, which could cause distortion or other noises. This is not a malfunction.
Other settings Appendix List of chords recognized When the chord recognition type is set to a value besides “Fingered2” you can specify chords by playing the keys shown below. Tip: You can change the chord recognition type by changing the “Chord Detect” setting in Setting mode (page 26).
