Clearance between Sector Gear Shaft and Side Cover
1. Measure the sector gear shaft O. D. with an outside
micrometer and side cover I.D. with a cylinder gauge, and
calculate the clearance.
2. If the clearance exceeds the allowable limit, replace the
defective parts.

1. Attach the pitman arm havi ng no play.
2. Set a dial indicator with its finger on the pitman arm.
3. Move the pitman arm lightly, and measure the deflection.
4. If the measurement is not within the factory specification,
adjust the backlash
with the adjusting screw.
