The Program Editor
oftheprogram,becausetheLOPASSfunctionissetbydefaulttocutsomeofthehigh
frequenciesfromanysignalthatpassesthroughit,inthiscasethePWMsignalispassing
through.WiththeLOPASSfunctionstillselected,presstheEditbutton.Thisbringsyoutothe
mainparameter
fortheLOPA SSobjectontheDSPCTLpage,whichisLPFrq(youcanalsoreach
thispageusingtheDSPCTLsoftbutton.)Hereyoucanadjusttheinitialvalueofthefunction,in
thiscaseitiscutofffrequencyforthelowpassfilter.Forthisexample,leave
thisinitialvalueset
toitsdefault.WiththeLPFrqparameterselected,pressrightonthecursorbuttontogettothis
function’ssubpage(therighthalfofthedisplay.)SelecttheVeltrkparameterandusethealpha
wheeloralphanumericpadtoturnitalltheway
upto10800ct.Now keyboardvelocitieswill
affecttheLPFrqparameter.Avelocityof127willcausethefilterscutofffrequencytomoveup
10800centsfromitsinitialvalue,avelocityof0willhavenoeffectonthecutofffrequency,and
valuesinbetweenwill
increasethecutofffrequencybyascalingbetween0and10800cents.
Overall,thiswillcausehigherplayedvelocitiestoincreasethecutofffrequency,makingthe
oscillatorsoundbrighter,andlowervelocitiestolowerthecutofffrequency,makingthe
oscillatorsoundduller.Thismethodcanbeused
tocontrolanyDSPfunctionthatisloadedinto
analgorithm.SeeCommonDSPControlParametersinAlgorithmBasics on page 6 28forother
controlparametersavailableontheDSPCTLpage.
Alternatively,youcouldassigncutofffrequencytobecontrolledbyanycontinuouscontroller,
suchastheModWheel.Startagainwith
theuneditedpatch1019VA1NakedPWMPoly.Follow
thesamestepsasabove,butinsteadofchanginganyparametersontheDSPCTLpage,pressthe
DSPMODsoftbuttontoreachtheDSP Modulationpage.Ontheleftsideofthescreen,choose
theparameterforLPFrq,andthenpresstheright
cursorbuttontoreachtheLPFrqsubpage.
Onthissubpage,youcanassignanycontinuouscontrollertocontrolthecutofffrequencyof
theLOPASSfunction(orthemainparameterforanyfunctionloadedinthecurrentalgorithm.)
SelecttheSrc1parameter,holdtheEnterbuttonandmove
theModWheeltoquicklyselect
MWheel(theModWheel)asyourcontrolsource.Next,pressthecursordownbuttontoselect
theDepthparameter,thenusethealphawheeloralphanumericpadtoturnitallthewayupto
10800ct.NowtheModWheelwillaffectthe
LPFrqparameter.MovingtheModWheelallthe
wayup(avalueof127)willcausethefilterscutofffrequencytomoveup10800centsfromits
initialvalue,movingtheModWheelallthewaydown(avalueof0)willhavenoeffectonthe
cut
offfrequency,andvaluesinbetweenwillincreasethecutofffrequencybyascalingbetween
0and10800cents.Nowyouhavethesamecontrolovercutofffrequencyasyoudidinthe
previousexample,butnowitiscontrolledbytheModWheel.Overall,movingtheModWheel
upwillincreasethecutofffrequency,makingtheoscillatorsoundbrighter,andmovingthe
ModWheeldownwilllowerthecutofffrequency,makingtheoscillatorsoundduller.Thisis
usefultocontrolaclassic“filtersweep”sound.Theabovemethodcanbeusedtocontrolany
DSPfunction
thatisloadedintoanalgorithm,andyoucanchooseanycontinuouscontrolleras
acontrolsource.
Note:WhenaddingprogramswithcontrollerassignmentstoasetupinSetupmode,yoursetupmust
haveitscontrollersassignedtothesamedestinationsthatyouassignedascontrolsourcesinyour
program.An
easywaytodothisisbyusingtheControl Setupthatyouusedwhenmakingyourprogram
asatemplateforyournewsetup(seeTheControlSetup on page 769.)
