The Operating Modes
Inthischapterwe’lldiscussthetheorybehindthemodeconcept,andwe’lldescribethebasic
operatingfeaturesofeachmode.
What the Modes Are
ThemodesexisttomakethePC3LElogicaltoworkwith.Withasmanyperformanceand
programmingfeaturesasthePC3LEhas,it’shelpfultobreakthemintogroups.Thesegroups
arecalledmodes.Therearesixprimarymodes;they’redescribedbrieflyinthesectioncalled
UsingtheModes on page 4‐2,
thentherestofthemanualisdedicatedtoexplainingeachprimary
modeinturn.
Eachmodeisnamedforthekindofoperationsyouperformwhileinthatmode,andeach
mode’seditor(ifany)containsalloftheparametersrelatedtoeditingthetypeofobjectfoundin
that
mode.InSetupmode,forexample,youselectsetups(andonlysetups)forperformanceor
editing.Allofthesetup‐editingparametersaregroupedtogetherontheSetup‐Editorpage,
whichisaccessiblethroughSetupmode.
Selecting Modes
WhenthePC3LEison,it’salwaysoperatinginoneofthesixprimarymodesrepresentedbythe
LED‐highlightedbuttonstotheleftofthedisplay—orinoneoftheeditorscorrespondingtothe
currentoperatingmode.Pressingoneofthemodebuttonsselectsthecorrespondingmode.This
isthe
mode’sentrylevel.Attheentrylevel,theLEDoftheselectedmodeislit.Onlyonemode
canbeselectedatatime.
Fromanyprimarymode,youcangettoanyotherprimarymodesimplybypressingoneofthe
modebuttons.Ifyou’reinaneditor,however,you
mustpressExittoreturntothemode’sentry
levelbeforeselectinganothermode.
AllofthemodesexceptMasterandStoragemodegiveyouaccesstooneormoreeditorsfor
changingthevaluesoftheparameterswithinthatmode.PresstheEditbuttontoentertheeditor
ofthe
currentlyselectedmode.Whenyoudothis,themodeLEDgoesout.
It’spossibletoenteranothermode’seditorwithoutleavingthecurrentlyselectedmode.For
example,ifyoupressEditwhileinSetupmode,you’llentertheSetupEditor.TheSetup‐Editor
pagewillappear,andtheProgramparameterwill
behighlightedbythecursor.IfyoupressEdit
again,you’llentertheProgramEditor,whereyoucaneditthecurrentlyselectedprogram.
Whileyoucaneditandsaveprogramsasyounormallywould,you’restillinSetupmode,and
youcan’tselectanothermodeatthispoint.Whenyou
exittheProgramEditor,you’llreturnto
theSetup‐Editorpage(andbepromptedtosaveanychangesmadetotheprogram.)PressExit
again,andyou’llleavetheSetupEditor,returningtotheSetupmodepage.
