TheV.A.S.T.ProgramEditorisallowsyoutomodifythePC3LE’sresidentsounds,andtobuild
yourownsoundsaroundsamplekeymapsorKVAoscillators(seeEditingVA S T ProgramsWith
KVAOscillators on page 653forsomedifferences.)There’svirtuallynolimittothesoundsyou
cancreateusingthetoolsintheProgramEditor.
Thetoplineofthedisplaygivesyoutheusualreminderofyourlocation.Italsotellsyouwhich
layeryou’reviewing,andhowmanylayersthere
areintheprogram.Youcanusethe
Chan/Layerbuttonstoscrollthroughthelayers,ifthe programhasmorethanone.
Here’samethodforjumpingquicklytoaspecificlayerinaprogram—it’sespeciallyusefulin
multilayereddrumprograms.HoldtheEnterbuttonandstrikeakey.The
displaywillshowthe
layer(s)assignedtothatkey.Ifmorethanonelayerisassignedtothesamekey,repeatedly
strikingthekey(whilecontinuingtoholdtheEnterbutton)willcyclethroughalllayers
assignedtothatkey.ThismethodwillworkinmostplaceswithintheProgramEditor,
butthere
isanexception:iftheparameteryouhavehighlightedhasanotenumberorcontrolsourceasits
value,thenholdingEnterandstrikinganotewillcallupthatnoteorcontrolsource.Forall
otherparameters,however,thismethodwillswitchbetweenlayers.
The Soft Buttons in the Program Editor
TheProgramEditorssoftbuttonsarelabeledbythewordsthatappearinthebottomlineofthe
display.ThesebuttonshavetwoimportantjobsintheProgramEditor:selectingpages,and
selectingspecificfunctions.Ifasoftbuttonislabeledinalluppercaseletters,pressingitwilltake
youto
thepageitdescribes. Ifthebuttonislabeledinmixeduppercaseandlowercaseletters,
pressingitwillexecutethesoftwarefunctiondescribedbythelabel.PressingtheLAYERsoft
button,forexample,willtakeyoutotheLayerpage,whilepressingtheNewLyrsoftbuttonwill
createanew
layerfortheprogram.
TherearemorepagesandfunctionsintheProgramEditorthantherearesoftbuttons.Therefore,
twoofthesoftbuttonsarededicatedtoscrollingthroughthelistofpagesandfunctions.Ifyou
don’tseethebuttonforthepageorfunctionyouwanttoselect,
pressoneofthesoftbuttons
labeledmore,andthelabelswillchange.Thisdoesn’tchangethecurrentlyselectedpage,it
merelychangestheselectionofavailablesoftbuttons.
TwoofthesoftbuttonsintheProgramEditorarespecialcases.They’rethesoftbuttonsthat
selecttheeditingpagesfor
thefirstandlastDSPfunctions(PitchandLevel,respectively)ofthe
currentprogram’salgorithm.OneofthesesoftbuttonsislabeledPITCH,andpressingitwill
takeyoutotheDSPCTL(DSPControl)pagewiththePitchparameterhighlighted.Theother
oneofthesesoftbuttonsislabeled
AMP,andpressingitwilltakeyoutotheDSPCTLpagewith
theLevelparameterhighlighted.Additionally,pressingtheDSPCTLsoftbuttonwilltakeyou
totheDSPCTLpage.
