Amplitudeenvelopeshavethreesections:attack,decay,andrelease.Theattacksection
determineshowlongeachnotetakestoreachitsassignedamplitudelevelafteryoutriggera
NoteOnevent.Thedecaysectiondetermineshowquicklyandhowmuchasustainedsound
fadesbeforeaNoteOffistriggered.The
releasesectiondetermineshowquicklyasoundfades
tosilenceafteraNoteOffistriggered.
PresstheAMPENVsoftbuttontoreachtheAmplitudeEnvelopepage.Formanyprograms,it
willlooklikethediagrambelow,whichtellsyouthattheamplitudeenvelopeforthecurrent
layeristhesample’s
default“natural”envelope.ManyfactoryROMprogramsusethenatural
envelope,whichiscustomdesignedforeachsampleandwaveformduringitsoriginal
developmentprocess.Anaturalenvelopeusuallycontainsmoredetailthanauserenvelope,
andmaymakesamplesofacousticinstrumentssoundmorerealistic.
Ifyouwanttobuild
yourownamplitudeenvelope,justturntheAlphaWheelaclick.Thevalue
NaturalwillchangetoUser,andasetofAMPENVparameterswillappear.Thesoundwill
changewhenyoudothis,becausethedefaultsettingsfortheUserenvelope,asshowninthe
diagrambelow,takeeffect
assoonasyouleaveNaturalmode.ReturningtoNaturalmode
appliestheoriginalamplitudeenvelopeonceagain.
YoulltweaktheparametersontheAMPENVpagewhenyouwanttoshapetheamplitude
characteristicsofyoursounds.Agraphicviewoftheamplitudeenvelopewillappearonthe
displaytogive
youavisualsenseoftheenvelope’scharacteristics.Thedotsalongtheenvelope
graphicindicatethebreakpointsbetweentheenvelope’svarioussegments.
TheAMPENVpage’stoplinegivesyoutheusuallocationreminder,pointsoutthecurrently
selectedlayer,andtellsyoutherelativescaleoftheenvelope’sgra p hic view.
Theenvelope
graphicshrinksinscaleasthesegmenttimesgetlonger.Thisautozoomfeaturemaximizesthe
availabledisplayspace.Trylengtheningoneofthesegmenttimes.Theenvelopegraphicwill
stretchtofillthedisplayfromlefttoright.Whenitfillsthedisplay,itwillshrinktohalf
itssize,
andthetoplinewillindicatethatthescalehaschanged(from[1/1]to[1/2],forexample).
