ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 3 3-1 ASSEMBLY - SAFETY It is very important that your new 3130 Series Wing Packer be properly assembled, adjusted and lubricated before use. Illustrations in this section show proper assembly procedures. Remove paint from grease fittings. Replace any grease fittings that are damaged or missing. Be sure to return screws, clips, etc., to their original locations. To insure alignment of assemblies, leave the nuts loose until completion of final assembly.
WARNING 1. USE LIFT CRANE, JACK, TACKLE OR FORK LIFT TRUCK TO LIFT HEAVY PARTS AND ASSEMBLIES. 2. KEEP CLEAR OF PARTS WHICH MAY MOVE OR DROP WHEN REMOVING SHIPPING STRAPS OR BRACKETS. 3. IF MACHINE REQUIRES BLOCKING UP, USE BLOCKING MATERIAL OF ADEQUATE STRENGTH AND IN GOOD CONDITION. BLOCKS MUST BE ON A SMOOTH DRY SURFACE. 4. NEVER PLACE ANY PART OF YOUR BODY UNDER BLOCKED-UP ASSEMBLIES. 5. IF WELDING OR FLAME-CUTTING IS REQUIRED, BE SURE NO FLAMMABLE MATERIALS ARE IN THE AREA.
3-2 AFTER ASSEMBLY - SAFETY CAUTION WARNING 1. BE SURE ALL NUTS, BOLTS, OTHER FASTENERS AND HYDRAULIC FITTINGS ARE PROPERLY TIGHTENED. REFER TO THE BOLT TORQUE CHART. 2. BE SURE ALL SAFETY GUARDS AND SAFETY LOCKING DEVICES ARE IN PLACE AND FUNCTION PROPERLY. BEFORE OPERATING THE MACHINE, BE SURE TO READ THE SAFETY AND OPERATION SECTIONS OF THE OPERATOR’S MANUAL. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE The Model 3130 Series Wing Packer is a rolling tillage tool designed to compact loose soils to improve seed to soil contact when planting. The Model 3130 is available in 19’, 20’, 22’, 24’, 27’, 31’, and 36’ wide models. This manual is written purposely to acquaint new owners of the Model 3130 Series Wing Packer with the functions of the various component parts of the machine as well as the service and safe operation which is vital to long life and optimum performance.
WARNING 1. DO NOT CLEAN, ADJUST OR SERVICE WHEN THE MACHINE IS IN MOTION. 2. ALL HYDRAULICALLY OR MECHANICALLY ELEVATED COMPONENTS MUST BE BLOCKED TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL LOWERING OR MUST BE LOWERED TO THE GROUND WHEN ADJUSTMENTS OR REPAIRS ARE MADE. 3. PROPERLY TIGHTEN ALL MOUNTING HARDWARE. SEE BOLT TORQUE CHART. 4. PERIODICALLY INSPECT ALL MOVING PARTS FOR WEAR AND REPLACE WITH ONLY AUTHORIZED SERVICE PARTS IF ANY EXCESSIVE WEAR IS PRESENT.
CAUTION 1. COMPLY WITH YOUR STATE AND LOCAL LAWS GOVERNING HIGHWAY SAFETY, LIGHTING & MARKING, AND THE MOVEMENT OF FARM MACHINERY ON PUBLIC ROADS. 2. ALWAYS DRIVE AT A REASONABLE SPEED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE EQUIPMENT. DO NOT TOW AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 20 MPH. 3. USE A SMV (SLOW MOVING VEHICLE) EMBLEM AT ALL TIMES. 4. USE APPROVED EXTREMITY LIGHTING AND WARNING DEVICES TO WARN OPERATORS OF OTHER VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY DURING TRANSPORT. 5.
WARNING 1. BE CERTAIN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS FULLY CHARGED WITH OIL BEFORE USE. AIR IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM CAN RESULT IN UNCONTROLLED MOVEMENT OF THE WINGS DURING RAISING AND LOWERING OPERATIONS. 2. LOWER THE MACHINE TO THE GROUND, SHUT OFF HYDRAULIC SUPPLY AND RELIEVE ALL HYDRAULIC PRESSURE BEFORE DISCONNECTING HYDRAULIC LINES. DANGER 1. CLEAR THE AREA OF BYSTANDERS BEFORE STARTING OPERATION. 2. STAY CLEAR OF THE FOLDING WINGS WHEN THEY ARE BEING RAISED OR LOWERED. 3.
4-1 DECALS 4-1.1 The following decals are installed to alert operators to hazards in specific machine areas. See Figure 4-1 for decals. The decals are for personal safety… READ AND UNDERSTAND THE DECALS! a. Keep decals clean by wiping off regularly. Use a cleaning solution if necessary. b. Replace missing, damaged or painted over decals.
4-2 TRACTOR PREPARATION WARNING BE SURE REMOTE COUPLERS ARE SECURELY MOUNTED TO TRACTOR FOR PROPER FUNCTION OF SAFETY DISCONNECT FEATURE. 4-2.1 Prior to attaching the implement the tractor should be prepared as follows: a. Check fluid level in the tractor hydraulic system reservoir. Additional fluid may be required after charging the implement hydraulic circuits. b. Add front frame and wheel weights as needed to maintain stability on hillsides and when transporting the implement. c.
4-4 ATTACHING TO TRACTOR With the packer on a level surface and the transport wheels blocked: 4-4.1 Back the tractor into the hitch clevis so that the holes align. 4-4.2 Set the tractor brakes and turn the tractor engine off. 4-4.3 Install an agricultural hitch pin with a locking device. The hitch pin must be rated for the size tractor pulling the implement. Secure the locking device. Place tongue jack in transport position. 4-4.4 Connect the hydraulic lines to the tractor.
4-7 ROLLERS 4-7.1 For maximum roller life, the rollers need to touch each other across the gangs. This adjustment is made by loosening the u-bolts which attach the bearing standards. The bearing lock collars must also be loosened. Bump the standard and the u-bolt toward the center of the machine until the rollers touch each other. Retighten the bearing lock collars. Retighten the u-bolts to at least 200 foot pounds of torque.
4-9 TRANSPORTING THE PACKER 4-9.1 Prior to Transport a. Utilize transport chains. The transport chain should be adjusted so that the tongue of the towed machine will not touch the ground in case of loss of the hitch pin. b. Place SMV emblem into the holder. c. Insect the two red reflectors on the rear corners of the machine and the amber reflector on the front left corner of the machine. Be sure all three are in place and free from dust and other obstructions. d.
4-10 GENERAL MAINTENANCE 4-10.1 Beginning of Day a. Perform daily lubrication. b. Check and adjust tire pressure. c. Check hydraulic hose routing to be sure hoses are not kinked, twisted or rubbing sharp edges. d. Check wheel bolt torque: 85 - 90 ft-lb (115 122 N×m) e. Tighten any loose hardware (See Table 2-1). 4-10.2 End of Day a. Clean dirt and residue from implement. b. Check for and repair any equipment damage. c. Check for and correct hydraulic hose and fitting leaks. d.
