Calling all thrill-seekers: Tumble Trax is your prime destination for hairpin turns,
dizzying drops, and furious speeds! Create your own roller-coaster course with
long, short, and curved magnetic pieces—then, drop the marble from the highest
point to see your daredevil design come to life! Take the challenge to the next
level by building the tracks pictured on the activity cards. Can you make the
marbles speed up, slow down, stop, or change direction by rearranging the
pieces? Talk about a crash course in engineering! But this is no stunt: Tumble Trax
is serious pulse-pumping, brain-boosting fun!
Notes for Use:
• Use Tumble Trax only on surfaces that magnets will not scratch. Test an area
rst to ensure that dragging the magnets does not result in scratching. We
recommend using the magnets on a magnetic board, magnetic chalkboard,
wall with magnetic paint, refrigerator with a textured surface, or by placing a
piece of paper behind the magnetic pieces to avoid scratching smooth-surfaced
refrigerators.
• Always start the marble rolling from the highest point on the track.
• The objective of each card is to drop a marble, or marbles, into the goal, after
correctly building a track.
Two-Player Challenge:
• Each player chooses seven pieces. Each player then builds a track that ends
at the goal. Race the marbles simultaneously to the goal. The rst marble in
the goal wins. For variation, players can try to build the slowest track. In this
version of play, the last marble in the goal wins.
What is STEM?
STEM is an acronym referring to the study of science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics. Here are some great ways to incorporate STEM lessons while
playing with Tumble Trax:
SCIENCE – Observe the way the ball travels down and around the maze pieces—
this is a real-life application of physics. Change up your paths by tilting or moving
some of the pieces.
TECHNOLOGY – With a digital camera or phone, take a picture of your own
crazy maze creations. Share and compare them with your friends!
ENGINEERING – Re-create the maze paths on the activity cards, and try to solve
the challenges in many different ways.
MATH – With a stopwatch, track the time that it takes a marble to travel from
the start to the goal. Try to add or subtract from the time by adjusting the maze
pieces.
