3. Minutes are marked in between the hours both on the top and bottom time lines. The
top and bottom times should be treated as the same time while calculating the elapsed
time. This format allows the Elapsed Time Line to be read easily.
1. Set the start time at the top of the time line using the start time arrow. Make sure you
use the correct A.M. or P.M. time.
2. Set the end time at the bottom of the time line using the end time arrow. Make sure
you use the correct A.M. or P.M. time.
3. Count the hours and minutes between the two arrows. This is the elapsed time.
4. If desired, students may slide the start arrow to the end arrow while counting the hours
and minutes to the end time.
5. A dry-erase marker could be used to count the elapsed time.
The examples on the back illustrate how the Elapsed Time Line is used.
