How to Install the New
GFCI USB Outlet
Put more within reach, with step-by-step installation instructions for
this first-of-its kind device.
STEP 1: Begin by turning o the outlets power at the breaker
and then absolutely double-check the outlet to be sure there is
NO power. You can use a circuit tester if you have one, or just
plug in a handheld appliance (hairdryers, hand mixers, etc.) to
confirm it won’t turn on.
IMPORTANT: Absolutely NOTHING should be done at the outlet
until you have guaranteed the power is o.
STEP 2: Next, remove the existing outlet by unscrewing the
wall plate and slightly pulling the receptacle itself out from the
wall so that you have access to its attached wiring.
TIP: It can be incredibly helpful to label the wires before disconnecting, especially
if you are not very familiar with electrical wiring. Be sure to note which wires are
Line vs. which are Load (this should be easy to find, as the terminals should be
marked on the back of the existing outlet), and also determine type. Typically, the
black wires are Hot, the white wires are Neutral, and the bare wire is Ground.
For the first time EVER, you can now install power, safety and charging, all with a
single outlet….and, its even easy.
Following the simple steps below, you can replace any existing GFCI outlet with
Legrand’s new, all-in-one GFCI USB Outlet, and safely add the convenience of built-
in charging anywhere you want it, even in kitchens, bathrooms and other areas that
require ground-fault* protection.
