•To reduce this annoying phenomenon, following exposures with
slower shutter speeds (below approx.

other menu settings) the Leica M automatically takes a second
"black picture" (with the shutter closed). The noise present in this
parallel picture is then digitally “subtracted” from the data for the
real picture.
•This doubling of the “exposure” time can be significant at longer
exposure times, and must be allowed for. During this time the
camera should not be turned off.
•At shutter speeds of more than 2s, the message

Time data is an example
VALUES ABOVE AND BELOW THE METERING RANGE
If the exposure meter reading is below its working range in very low
lighting conditions and in manual mode, the left hand triangular LED
(
) flashes as a warning in the viewfinder, while the right hand LED ( )
does the same if there is too much light. In aperture priority mode,
the shutter speed is still displayed. If the required shutter speed is
less than 60s or more than
1
/
4000
s, these displays also flash. As the
exposure is metered with the working aperture, this situation can
come about by stopping down the lens. Even if you are below the
metering range, the exposure meter remains on for around 30s after
you let go of the shutter release button. If the lighting conditions
improve in this time (e.g. through a change in the subject detail or
opening of the aperture), the LED display changes from flashing to
continuously lit, indicating that the meter is ready.
