Operation Manual

If lenses with focal lengths of 28 (Elmarit from serial
number 2411001), 35, 50, 75 and 135mm are used,
the associated bright-line frame automatically ad justs
to the combinations 28+90mm, 35+135mm, 50+75mm.
In the middle of the viewnder image is the rectangular
distance metering image, which is brighter than the
surrounding image eld. All lenses with focal lengths
from 16 to 135mm are linked to the range nder
when used on the Leica M9.
If the exposure meter is turned on, the exposure
meter LEDs and the ash symbol LED appear at the
lower edge of the viewnder image.
For more information about distance and exposure
metering and on using ash, refer to the correspond ing
sections on p. 134/135/143.
IMAGE FIELD SELECTOR
The image eld selector (1.8) expands the possibilities
of the Leica M9 viewnder. This built in universal
viewnder allows you to activate bright-lines at any
time, which do not belong to the lens currently being
used. You can then see immediately if, for compo-
sition reasons, it would be better to photograph the
relevant subject using a dierent focal length.
Moving the lever outwards, i.e. away from the lens,
shows the image eld limits for 35 and 135mm focal
lengths.
Moving the lever to its vertical central position dis-
plays the image eld limits for 50 and 75mm focal
lengths.
Moving the lever inwards, i.e. towards the lens, shows
the image eld limits for 28 and 90mm focal lengths.
