Selectingastartupdevice
Ifthecomputerdoesnotstartupfromadeviceasexpected,youcanchoosetochangethestartupdevice
sequencepermanentlyorselectatemporarystartupdevice.
Changingthestartupdevicesequencepermanently
Tochangethestartupdevicesequencepermanently,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofthestoragedevice,dooneofthefollowing:
•Ifthestoragedeviceisinternal,gotostep2.
•Ifthestoragedeviceisadisc,ensurethatthecomputerisonorturnonthecomputer.Then,insert
thediscintotheopticaldrive.
•Ifthestoragedeviceisanexternaldeviceotherthanadisc,connectthestoragedevicetothe
computer.
2.StarttheSetupUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage31.
3.SelectStartup.
4.Followtheinstructionsontherightsideofthescreentochangethestartupdevicesequence.
5.ExittheSetupUtilityprogram.See“ExitingtheSetupUtilityprogram”onpage35.
Selectingatemporarystartupdevice
Note:Notalldiscsandstoragedrivesarebootable.
Toselectatemporarystartupdevice,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofthestoragedevice,dooneofthefollowing:
•Ifthestoragedeviceisinternal,gotostep2.
•Ifthestoragedeviceisadisc,ensurethatthecomputerisonorturnonthecomputer.Then,insert
thediscintotheopticaldrive.
•Ifthestoragedeviceisanexternaldeviceotherthanadisc,connectthestoragedevicetothe
computer.
2.Turnonorrestartthecomputer.BeforeWindowsstartsup,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key
untilStartupDeviceMenuisdisplayed.
Note:Forsomekeyboards,youmightneedtopressFn+F12todisplayStartupDeviceMenu.
3.SelectthedesiredstoragedeviceandpressEnter.Thecomputerwillstartupfromthedeviceyouselect.
Ifyouwanttoselectapermanentstartupdevice,selectEnterSetuponStartupDeviceMenuandpress
EntertostarttheSetupUtilityprogram.Formoreinformationabouthowtoselectapermanentstartup
device,see“Changingthestartupdevicesequencepermanently”onpage35
.
ExitingtheSetupUtilityprogram
ToexittheSetupUtilityprogram,dooneofthefollowing:
•Ifyouwanttosavethenewsettings,presstheF10key.Then,selectYesinthewindowdisplayed
andpressEnter.
Note:Forsomekeyboards,youmightneedtopressFn+F10toexittheSetupUtilityprogram.
•Ifyoudonotwanttosavethenewsettings,selectExit➙DiscardChangesandExitandpressEnter.
Then,selectYesinthewindowdisplayedandpressEnter.
