•Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoreturnfromsleepmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwas
insleepmode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturnitonbefore
resumingthecomputerfromthesleepmode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromthesleepmode
withoutattachingtheexternalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplayremainsblank,press
F7tobringupthecomputerdisplay.
Notes:
–IfyouareusingF7toapplyapresentationscheme,youwillneedtopressF7atleastthreetimesin
threesecondstobringupthecomputerdisplay.
–IfyourcomputerisaWindows7model,itdoesnotsupportthepresentationscheme.
•Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,andthecomputerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,itmighthaveenteredsleeporhibernation
modeautomaticallybecausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesystem-statusindicator(illuminated
ThinkPadlogo).
–Ifthesystem-statusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)blinksslowly,yourcomputerisinsleepmode.
Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressFn.
–Ifthesystem-statusindicator(illuminatedThinkPadlogo)isoff,yourcomputerisinpower-offstateor
inhibernationmode.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbutton
toresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,yoursystemmightstoprespondingandyoumightnot
beabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youneedtoresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenotsaved
yourdata,itmightbelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonforfoursecondsor
more.Ifthesystemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapter.
•Problem:Yourcomputerdoesnotentersleeporhibernationmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranyoptionhasbeenselectedtodisableyourcomputerfromenteringsleep
orhibernationmode.
Ifyourcomputertriestoentersleepmodebuttherequestisrejected,thedeviceattachedtotheUSB
connectormighthavebeendisabled.Ifthisoccurs,doahot-unplug-and-plugoperationfortheUSB
device.
•Problem:Thebatterydischargesslightlywhilethecomputerisinhibernationmode.
Solution:Ifthewake-upfunctionisenabled,thecomputerconsumesasmallamountofpower.Thisis

•Problem:Theharddiskdrivemakesarattlingnoiseintermittently.
Solution:Therattlingnoisemightbeheard:
–Whentheharddiskdrivebeginsorfinishesgettingaccesstodata.
–Whenyoucarrytheharddiskdrive.
–Whenyoucarryyourcomputer.
Thisisanormalcharacteristicofaharddiskdriveandisnotadefect.
