Usingrecoverymedia

Youcanuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettingsonly.Youcanuse

recoverymediatoputthecomputerinanoperationalstateafterallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailed.

Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,alltheﬁles

currentlyontheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrivewillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.

Touserecoverymedia,dothefollowing:

1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootmedium(memorykeyorotherUSB

storagedevice)tothecomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintoanexternalopticaldrive.

2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF12keywhenturningonthecomputer.WhentheBootMenuwindow

opens,releasetheF12key.

3.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.

4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.

1.Afterrestoringyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,youmighthavetoreinstalldevicedrivers

forsomedevices.See“Reinstallingpreinstalledapplicationsanddevicedrivers”onpage99.

2.SomecomputerscomewithMicrosoftOfﬁceorMicrosoftWorkspreinstalled.Ifyouneedtorecover

orreinstallyourMicrosoftOfﬁceorMicrosoftWorksapplications,youmustusetheMicrosoftOfﬁce

CDorMicrosoftWorksCD.ThesediscsareprovidedonlywithcomputerspreinstalledwithMicrosoft

OfﬁceorMicrosoftWorks.

Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations

TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyourharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive

contentsincludingtheoperatingsystem,dataﬁles,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcan

designatewheretheRescueandRecoveryprogramstoresthebackup:

•Inaprotectedareaofyourharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive

•OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive

•Onanetworkdrive

•Onrecordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)

Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsontheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,youcanrestorethe

completecontentsoftheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,restoreonlytheselectedﬁles,orrestoreonly

theWindowsoperatingsystemandapplications.

Performingabackupoperation

ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoperformabackupoperationusingtheRescueandRecovery

program.

1.Fromthedesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools➙EnhancedBackup

andRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramstarts.

2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.

3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson

thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
