2.TypethenewmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeldandpressEnter;then
retypethenewpasswordyoujustenteredintheConrmNewPasswordeldandpressEnter.
3.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertocontinue.Themasterharddiskpasswordis
changed.
Note:IfyouleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblankandpressEnter
twice,boththeuserandmasterharddiskpasswordsareremoved.
•IfyouareinUserharddiskmode,followthefollowingstepstochangetheuserharddiskpassword:
1.Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage48,typingyourpasswordtoget
accesstotheThinkPadSetupprogram.

4.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEnteragaintocontinue.Theuserharddiskpasswordis
changed.

Tipsonusingtheharddiskpasswords
•YoucansettheminimumlengthofaharddiskpasswordthroughtheSecuritymenu.
•Ifyousetaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters,theharddiskdrivecanbeusedonlywitha
computerthatcanrecognizeaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters.Ifyoutheninstallthe
harddiskdriveinacomputerthatcannotrecognizeaharddiskpasswordthatcontainsmorethan
sevencharacters,youcannotaccessthedrive.
•Recordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgettheuserharddiskpassword,orbothuser
andmasterharddiskpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordsorrecoverdatafromtheharddisk
drive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethehard
diskdrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.

•Setapower-onpasswordaswellasaharddiskpasswordforyourinternalsolid-statedriveorharddisk
