Performingarecoveryoperation

ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoperformarecoveryoperationusingtheRescueandRecovery

program.

1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools➙Enhanced

BackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.

2.IntheRescueandRecoveryprogrammainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecovery

arrow.

3.ClicktheRestoreyoursystemfromabackupicon.

4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetherecoveryoperation.

UsingtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace

TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceresidesinaprotected,hiddenareaofyourharddiskdrivethat

operatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem.Thisenablesyoutoperformrecovery

operationsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.Youcanperformthefollowingrecovery

operationsfromtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace:

•Rescueﬁlesfromyourharddiskdriveorfromabackup

TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutolocateﬁlesonyourharddiskdriveandtransfer

themtoanetworkdriveorotherrecordablemedia,suchasaUSBdeviceoradisc.Thissolutionis

availableevenifyoudidnotbackupyourﬁlesorifchangesweremadetotheﬁlessinceyourlastbackup

operation.YoualsocanrescueindividualﬁlesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuplocatedonyourlocal

harddiskdrive,aUSBdevice,oranetworkdrive.

•RestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup

IfyouhavebackedupyourharddiskdriveusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogram,youcanrestorethe

harddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperating

system.

•Restoreyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultsettings

TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutorestorethecompletecontentsofyourharddiskdrive

tothefactorydefaultsettings.Ifyouhavemultiplepartitionsonyourharddiskdrive,youhavetheoption

torestorethefactorydefaultsettingstotheC:partitionandleavetheotherpartitionsintact.Becausethe

RescueandRecoveryworkspaceoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcan

restorethefactorydefaultsettingsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.

Attention:IfyourestoretheharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuporrestoretheharddisk

drivetothefactorydefaultsettings,allﬁlesontheprimaryharddiskdrivepartition(usuallydriveC:)willbe

deletedintherecoveryprocess.Ifpossible,makecopiesofimportantﬁles.Ifyouareunabletostartthe

Windowsoperatingsystem,youcanusetherescueﬁlesfeatureoftheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceto

copyﬁlesfromyourharddiskdrivetoothermedia.

TostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace,dothefollowing:

1.Makesurethatthecomputeristurnedoff.

2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF11keywhenturningonthecomputer.Whenyouhearbeepsor

seealogoscreen,releasetheF11key.

3.IfyouhavesetaRescueandRecoverypassword,typeyourpasswordwhenprompted.TheRescue

andRecoveryworkspaceopensafterashortdelay.
