Usingrecoverymedia
Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtouserecoverymediaondifferentoperatingsystems.
•Youcanuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettingsonly.Youcanuse
recoverymediatoputthecomputerinanoperationalstateafterallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailed.
Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,allthe
filescurrentlyonthestoragedevicewillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.
Touserecoverymedia,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootmedium(memorykeyorotherUSB
storagedevice)tothecomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintotheexternalopticaldrive.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF12keywhenturningonthecomputer.WhentheBootMenu
windowopens,releasetheF12key.
3.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.

1.Afterrestoringyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,youmighthavetoreinstalldevicedrivers
forsomedevices.See“Reinstallingpreinstalledprogramsanddevicedrivers”onpage111.
2.SomecomputerscomewithMicrosoftOfficeorMicrosoftWorkspreinstalled.Ifyouneedtorecover
orreinstallyourMicrosoftOfficeorMicrosoftWorksprograms,youmustusetheMicrosoftOfficeCD

Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations
TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyourstoragedrivecontentsincludingthe
operatingsystem,datafiles,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcandesignatewherethe
RescueandRecoveryprogramstoresthebackup:
•Inaprotectedareaofyourstoragedrive
•OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive
•Onanetworkdrive
•Onrecordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)
Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsonthestoragedrive,youcanrestorethecompletecontentsofthe
storagedrive,restoreonlytheselectedfiles,orrestoreonlytheWindowsoperatingsystemandapplications.

1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoPCExperience➙LenovoTools➙
EnhancedBackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson
thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
