Performingarecoveryoperation
ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoperformarecoveryoperationusingtheRescueandRecovery
program.
1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoPCExperience➙LenovoTools➙
EnhancedBackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClicktheRestoreyoursystemfromabackupicon.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetherecoveryoperation.
UsingtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceresidesinaprotected,hiddenareaofyourstoragedrivethatoperates
independentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem.Thisenablesyoutoperformrecoveryoperationsevenif
youcannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.Youcanperformthefollowingrecoveryoperationsfrom
theRescueandRecoveryworkspace:
•Rescuefilesfromyourstoragedriveorfromabackup
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutolocatefilesonyourstoragedriveandtransfer
themtoanetworkdriveorotherrecordablemedia,suchasaUSBdeviceoradisc.Thissolutionis
availableevenifyoudidnotbackupyourfilesorifchangesweremadetothefilessinceyourlastbackup
operation.YoualsocanrescueindividualfilesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuplocatedonyourlocal
storagedrive,aUSBdevice,oranetworkdrive.
•RestoreyourstoragedrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup
IfyouhavebackedupyourstoragedriveusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogram,youcanrestorethe
storagedrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperating
system.
•Restoreyourstoragedrivetothefactorydefaultsettings
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutorestorethecompletecontentsofyourstoragedrive
tothefactorydefaultsettings.Ifyouhavemultiplepartitionsonyourstoragedrive,youhavetheoptionto
restorethefactorydefaultsettingstotheC:partitionandleavetheotherpartitionsintact.Becausethe
RescueandRecoveryworkspaceoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcan
restorethefactorydefaultsettingsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.
Attention:IfyourestorethestoragedrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuporrestorethestorage
drivetothefactorydefaultsettings,allfilesontheprimarypartition(usuallydriveC:)willbedeletedin
therecoveryprocess.Ifpossible,makecopiesofimportantfiles.IfyouareunabletostarttheWindows
operatingsystem,youcanusetherescuefilesfeatureoftheRescueandRecoveryworkspacetocopyfiles
fromyourstoragedrivetoothermedia.
TostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace,dothefollowing:
1.Makesurethatthecomputeristurnedoff.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF11keywhenturningonthecomputer.Whenyouhearbeepsor
seealogoscreen,releasetheF11key.
3.IfyouhavesetaRescueandRecoverypassword,typeyourpasswordwhenprompted.TheRescue
andRecoveryworkspaceopensafterashortdelay.

4.Dooneofthefollowing:
•Torescuefilesfromyourstoragedriveorfromabackup,clickRescuefilesandfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen.
