Smartcardscanbeusedforauthentication,datastorage,andapplicationprocessing.Smartcardsalso
mightprovidestrongsecurityauthenticationforsinglesign-on(SSO)withinlargeorganizations.The
smart-cardreaderonyourcomputeronlysupportsthesmartcardofthefollowingspecifications:
Length:85.60mm(3.37inches)
Width:53.98mm(2.13inches)
Thickness:0.76mm(0.03inch)
Donotinsertsmartcardswithslitsintoyourcomputer.Otherwise,thesmart-cardreadermightgetdamaged.
InstallinganExpressCard,amediacard,orasmartcard
Toinstallthecard,dothefollowing:
Attention:Beforeyoustartinstallingacard,touchametaltableoragroundedmetalobject.Thisaction
reducesanystaticelectricityfromyourbody.Thestaticelectricitycoulddamagethecard.
1.Locatetheappropriatetypeofslotforyourcard.See“Locatingcomputercontrols,connectors,and
indicators”onpage1.
2.Ensurethatthecardiscorrectlyoriented:
FortheExpressCard:Thenotchededgeofthecardisfacingupwardandpointingtowardthe
cardslot.
Forthemediacard:Themetalcontactsarefacingdownandpointingtowardthecardslot.
Forthesmartcard:Themetalcontactsarefacingupwardandpointingtowardthecardslot.
3.Pressthecardfirmlyintothecardslot.
Iftheplug-and-playfeatureisnotenabledfortheinstalledExpressCard,mediacardorsmartcard,dothe
followingtoenablethefeature:
1.OpenControlPanel.
2.ClickHardwareandSound.
3.ClickDeviceManager.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,typethe
passwordorprovideconfirmation.
4.FromtheActionmenu,selectAddlegacyhardware.TheAddHardwareWizardstarts.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
