Installinganewoperatingsystem

Insomesituations,youmightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.Thistopicprovidesinstructionson

howtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.

InstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem

Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.

Attention:Theprocessofinstallinganewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourstoragedrive,

includingthedatathatwerestoredinahiddenfolder.

ToinstalltheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:

1.CopyallthesubdirectoriesandﬁlesintheC:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoaremovablestoragedevice.

•ThesupplementﬁlesfortheWindows7operatingsystemareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.

•ThedevicedriversareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.

•ThepreinstalledprogramsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.

2.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage67.

3.SelectStartup➙UEFI/LegacyBoot.Thendooneofthefollowing:

•ToinstalltheWindows7(32-bit)operatingsystem,selectLegacyOnlyorBoth.

•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminLegacymode,selectLegacyOnly.

•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminUEFImode,selectUEFIOnly.

4.ChangethebootpriorityordertobootyourcomputerfromtheexternalDVDdrive.

5.PresstheF10keytoexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.

6.ConnecttheexternalDVDdrivetothecomputerandinserttheWindows7operatingsysteminstallation

DVDintothedrive,andrestartthecomputer.

Note:IfyouarestartingtheinstallationDVDimagefromanexternalUSBdevice,doadditional

conﬁgurationsbeforeyoustart.Formoreinformation,goto:

7.RestoretheC:\SWTOOLSdirectorythatyoubackedupbeforeinstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem.

8.Installthedevicedrivers.See“Installingdevicedrivers”onpage67.

9.InstalltheWindows7ﬁxmodules.YoucanﬁndtheWindows7ﬁxmodulesintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXES\

directory.Formoreinformation,gototheMicrosoftKnowledgeBasehomepageat:

10.Installtheregistrypatches,forexampletheEnablingWakeonLANfromStandbyforENERGYSTAR
