Solution:Dothefollowing:
1.Pressandholdthepowerbuttonforfoursecondsormoretoturnoffthecomputer.
•Ifthecomputeristurnedoff,restartthecomputerbypressingthepowerbutton.Ifthecomputer
doesnotturnon,continuewithstep2.
•Ifyoucannotturnoffyourcomputerbypressingandholdingthepowerbutton,removeallsources
ofpowerfromthecomputerandresetthesystembyinsertingastraightenedpaperclipintothe
emergency-resethole.Tolocatetheresethole,referto“Bottomview”onpage5
.Afterthecomputer
isoff,restartthecomputerbypressingthepowerbutton.Ifthecomputerdoesnotturnon,continue
withstep3.
2.Whilethecomputerisoff,removeallsourcesofpowerfromthecomputerandresetthesystemby
insertingastraightenedpaperclipintotheemergency-resethole.Reattachtheacpoweradapterand
restartthecomputer.Ifthecomputerdoesnotturnbackon,continuewithstep3.
Note:IfyourcomputerstartsupandenterstheWindowsenvironment,usethepropershutdown
proceduretoturnoffthecomputer.
3.Removeallexternaldevicesthatareattachedtoyourcomputer(keyboard,mouse,printer,scanner,and
soon).Repeatstep2.Ifstep2isunsuccessful,calltheCustomerSupportCenterandaCustomer
SupportSpecialistwillassistyou.

Problem:Ispillsomethingonthecomputer.
Solution:Becausemostliquidsconductelectricity,liquidspilledonthekeyboardcouldcreatenumerous
shortcircuitsanddamageyourcomputer.Tosolvetheproblem,dothefollowing:
1.Ensurethatnoliquidcreatesashortcircuitbetweenyouandtheacpoweradapter(ifinuse).
2.Carefullyunplugtheacpoweradapterimmediately.
3.Turnoffthecomputerimmediately.Ifthecomputerdoesnotturnoff,removetheremovablebattery.The
morequicklyyoustopthecurrentfrompassingthroughthecomputerthemorelikelyyouwillreduce
damagefromshortcircuits.
Attention:Althoughyoumightlosesomedataorworkbyturningoffthecomputerimmediately,leaving
thecomputeronmightmakeyourcomputerunusable.
4.Waituntilyouarecertainthatalltheliquidisdrybeforeturningonyourcomputer.

Solution:ChecksumofthesupervisorpasswordintheEEPROMisnotcorrect.Thesystemboard
shouldbereplaced.Havethecomputerserviced.
•Message:0183:BadCRCofSecuritySettingsinEFIVariable.EnterThinkPadSetup.
Solution:ChecksumoftheSecuritysettingsintheEFIVariableisnotcorrect.EnterThinkPadSetup
tochecksecuritysettings,pressF10,andthenpressEntertorestartthesystem.Ifyoustillhavea
problem,havethecomputerserviced.
•Message:0187:EAIAdataaccesserror
Solution:TheaccesstoEEPROMisfailed.Havethecomputerserviced.
