Thischapterprovidesageneralroadmaptoguideyouthroughsettingupyourserver.

Theserversetupprocedurevariesdependingonthecongurationoftheserverwhenitwasdelivered.In

somecases,theserverisfullyconguredandyoujustneedtoconnecttheservertothenetworkandanac

powersource,andthenyoucanturnontheserver.Inothercases,theserverneedstohavehardwaredevices

installed,requireshardwareandrmwareconguration,andrequiresanoperatingsystemtobeinstalled.

Thegeneralprocedureforsettingupyourserveris:

1.Unpacktheserverpackage.See“Serverpackage”onpage7.

2.Installanyrequiredhardwareorserveroptions.SeetherelatedtopicsinChapter6“Installing,removing,

orreplacinghardware”onpage69.

3.Installtheserverintoastandardrackcabinetbyusingtherailkitshippedwiththeserver.SeetheRack

InstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.

4.ConnecttheEthernetcable(s)andpowercord(s)totheserver.See“Rearviewoftheserver”onpage

tolocatetheconnectors.

5.Turnontheservertoverifyoperation.See“Turningontheserver”onpage51.

6.ReviewtheUniedExtensibleFirmwareInterface(UEFI)BasicInputOutputSystem(BIOS)settingsand

7.CongureRAIDandinstalltheoperatingsystemanddevicedrivers.See“UsingtheThinkServer
