•IfyouwanttodeletetheexistingRAIDarray,exittheprogramandbackupallyourdataonthe
harddiskdrives.Afterbackingupallyourdata,entertheprogrammaininterfaceandselectClear
Conguration.SelectYeswhenpromptedandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Attention:DeletinganexistingRAIDarrayerasesalldataonthearray.Ensurethatyoubackupall
databeforedeletingtheRAIDarray.IftheoperatingsystemisinstalledontheRAIDarrayyouwantto
delete,youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemafterdeletingtheRAIDarray.
•IfyouwanttodeletetheexistingRAIDarrayandcreateanewRAIDarray,exittheprogramandback
upallyourdataontheharddiskdrives.Afterbackingupallyourdata,entertheprogrammain
interfaceandselectNewConguration.SelectYeswhenpromptedtoproceedandthenfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen.
Attention:DeletinganexistingRAIDarrayerasesalldataonthearray.Ensurethatyoubackupall
databeforedeletingtheRAIDarray.IftheoperatingsystemisinstalledontheRAIDarrayyouwantto
delete,youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemafterdeletingtheRAIDarray.
Initializingavirtualdrive
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinitializeavirtualdriveusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConguration
Utilityprogramaftercompletingthecongurationprocess.
Virtualdriveinitializationistheprocessofwritingzerostothedataeldsofavirtualdriveand,infault-tolerant
RAIDlevels,generatingthecorrespondingparitytoputthevirtualdriveinareadystate.Initializationerases
alldataonthevirtualdrive.Drivegroupswillworkwithoutbeinginitialized,buttheycanfailaconsistency
checkbecausetheparityeldshavenotbeengenerated.
Notes:
•Ensurethatyoubackupanydatayouwanttokeepbeforeinitializingavirtualdrive.
•Ensurethattheoperatingsystemisnotinstalledonthevirtualdriveyouareinitializing.Otherwise,you
needtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemafterinitializingthevirtualdrive.

2.Onthemaininterfaceoftheprogram,selectInitializeandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Settingahot-sparedrive
Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtosetaharddiskdriveasahot-sparedriveusingtheLSISoftware
RAIDCongurationUtilityprogram.
Ahot-sparedriveisanextra,unuseddrivethatispartofthedisksubsystem.Itisusuallyinstandbymode
andreadyforserviceifaharddiskdrivefails.Fordetailedinformationabouthot-sparedrives,referto

withyourserver.
