Drivesandotherstoragedevices
Thissectionincludesthreedriveproblemswhichareharddiskdrive,solidstatedrive,andopticaldrive.
Harddiskdriveproblems
•Problem:Theharddiskdrivemakesarattlingnoiseintermittently.
Solution:Therattlingnoisemightbeheard:
–Whentheharddiskdrivebeginsornishesgettingaccesstodata.
–Whenyoucarrytheharddiskdrive.
–Whenyoucarryyourcomputer.
Thisisanormalcharacteristicofaharddiskdriveandisnotadefect.
•Problem:Theharddiskdrivedoesnotwork.
Solution:InthestartupmenuoftheThinkPadSetup,makesurethattheharddiskdriveisincludedinthe
“Bootpriorityorder”list.Ifitisincludedinthe“Excludedfrombootorder”list,itisdisabled.Selectthe
entryforitinthelistandpresstheShift+1key.Thismovestheentrytothe“Bootpriorityorder”list.
•Problem:Aftersettingaharddiskpasswordontheharddiskdriveofthecomputer,youmovedthedrive
toanothercomputer.Nowyoucannotunlocktheharddiskpassword.
Solution:Yourcomputersupportsanenhancedpasswordalgorithm.Computersolderthanyoursmay
notsupportsuchasecurityfunction.
Solidstatedriveproblems
•Problem:WhenyoucompresslesorfoldersbyuseofthedatacompressionfunctioninWindows,and
thendecompressthem,theprocessofwritingtoorreadingfromthelesorfoldersisslow.
Solution:ApplythediskdefragmentationtoolinWindowsforfasteraccesstothedata.
Softwareproblems
•Problem:Anapplicationdoesnotruncorrectly.
Solution:Makesurethattheproblemisnotbeingcausedbytheapplication.
Checkthatyourcomputerhastheminimumrequiredmemorytoruntheapplication.Refertothemanuals
suppliedwiththeapplication.
