Externalmonitorproblems
Problem:Theexternalmonitorisblank.
Solution:Tosolvetheproblem,dothefollowing:
1.Connecttheexternalmonitortoanothercomputertomakesurethatitworks.
2.Reconnecttheexternalmonitortoyourcomputer.
3.Refertothemanualshippedwiththeexternalmonitortochecktheresolutionsandrefreshratesthat
aresupported.
Iftheexternalmonitorsupportsthesameresolutionasthecomputerdisplayorahigherresolution,
viewoutputontheexternalmonitororonboththeexternalmonitorandthecomputerdisplay.
Iftheexternalmonitorsupportsalowerresolutionthanthecomputerdisplay,viewoutputonthe
externalmonitoronly.(Ifyouviewoutputonboththecomputerdisplayandtheexternalmonitor,
theexternalmonitorscreenwillbeblankordistorted.)
Problem:Wrongcharactersaredisplayedonthescreen.
Solution:Didyoufollowthecorrectprocedurewheninstallingtheoperatingsystemorprogram?Ifyou
did,havetheexternalmonitorserviced.
Problem:Thescreenpositionontheexternalmonitorisincorrectwhenthatmonitorissetforahigh
resolution.
Solution:Sometimes,whenyouuseahighresolutionsuchas1600x1200,theimageisshiftedtoleftor
rightonthescreen.Tocorrectthis,rstmakesurethatyourexternalmonitorsupportsthedisplaymode
(theresolutionandtherefreshrate)thatyouhaveset.Ifitdoesnot,setadisplaymodethatthemonitor
supports.Ifitdoessupportthedisplaymodeyouhaveset,gotothesetupmenuforthemonitoritself
andadjustthesettingsthere.Usuallytheexternalmonitorhasbuttonsforaccesstothesetupmenu.For
details,seethedocumentationthatcomeswiththemonitor.
Audioproblems
Problem:Avolumeorbalanceslidercannotbemoved.
Solution:Theslidermightbegrayedout.Thismeansthatitspositionisxedbythehardwareand
cannotbechanged.
Problem:Thevolumeslidersdonotstayinplacewhensomeaudioprogramsareused.
Solution:Itisnormalforthesliderstochangepositionwhencertainsoundprogramsareused.The
programsareawareofthesettingsintheVolumeMixerwindowandareallowedtochangethesettings
themselves.Usuallytheprogramhasslidersavailabletocontrolthesoundfromwithintheprogram.
Problem:Thebalanceslidercannotcompletelymuteonechannel.
Solution:Thecontrolisdesignedtocompensateforminordifferencesinbalanceanddoesnot
completelymuteeitherchannel.
Problem:ThereisnovolumecontrolforMIDIsoundintheVolumeMixerwindow.
Solution:Usethehardwarevolumecontrol.Thisisbecausethebuilt-insynthesizersoftwaredoes
notsupportthecontrol.
Problem:ThesoundcannotbeturnedoffcompletelyevenifyousettheMastervolumecontrolat
minimum.
Solution:Y oustillcanhearsomesoundeventhoughyouhavesettheMastervolumecontrolatminimum.
Toturnoffthesoundcompletely,gototheMastervolumecontrolandselectMutespeakers.
