Noticeondeletingdatafromyoursolid-statedrive
Someofthedatastoredonthesolid-statedrivemightbesensitive.Handingyourcomputeroverto
someoneelsewithoutdeletingtheloadedsoftware,suchasoperatingsystemsandapplicationsoftware,
mightevenviolatelicenseagreements.Besuretodeletedatastoredonthesolid-statedrivebeforeyou
disposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.
Youcanusethefollowingmethodstodeletedatafromthesolid-statedrive:
•MovethedatatotheRecycleBin,andthenemptytheRecycleBin.
•Deletethedata.
•Formatyoursolid-statedrive,usingthesoftwareforinitializingit.
•UsetherecoveryprogramprovidedbyLenovotobringthesolid-statedrivebacktothefactorydefault
settings.
Theseoperations,however,onlychangethefilelocationofthedata;theydonotdeletethedataitself.In
otherwords,thedataretrievalprocessingisdisabledunderanoperatingsystemsuchasWindows.The
dataisstillthere,eventhoughitseemstobelost.Thus,itissometimespossibletoreadthedatabyuseof
specialsoftwarefordatarecovery.Thereisariskthatpeopleofbadfaithmightreadandmisusethecritical
dataonsolid-statedrivesforunexpectedpurposes.
Topreventleakageofdata,itisimportantthatyoudeleteallthedatafromthesolid-statedrivewhen
youdisposeof,sell,orhandoveryourcomputer.Youcandestroythedataphysicallybysmashingthe
solid-statedrivewithahammer,ormagneticallybymeansofstrongmagneticpower,thusmakingthedata
unreadable.Butitisrecommendedthatyouusethesoftware(payware)orservice(payservice)developed
forthatpurpose.Theprocessmighttakeseveralhours.
Fordisposingofdataonthesolid-statedrive,LenovoprovidesDriveEraseUtilityforResettingthe

IfanEncryptionsolid-statedriveissupportedandinstalledinyourcomputer,youcanlogicallydisposeof
allthedataonthedriveinashorttimebyerasingthecryptographickey.Thedataencryptedwiththeold
keyisnotphysicallyerasedbutremainsonthedrive;however,itcannotbedecryptedwithouttheoldkey.
ThisfeatureisalsoavailablewithDriveEraseUtilityforResettingtheCryptographicKeyandErasingthe
SolidStateDrivetool.
