ThissectionprovidesinformationabouttherecoverysolutionsfortheWindows8.1operatingsystem.

AWindowsrecoveryimageispreinstalledintherecoverypartitiononyourcomputer.TheWindowsrecovery

imageenablesyoutorefreshyourcomputer,orresetyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings.

YoucancreatearecoveryUSBdriveasbackupsorreplacementfortheWindowsrecoveryimage.Withthe

recoveryUSBdrive,youcantroubleshootandﬁxtheproblemsonyourcomputerevenifyoucannotstart

theWindows8.1operatingsystem.ItisrecommendedthatyoucreatetherecoveryUSBdriveasearlyas

Beforerecovery

Readthissectionbeforeperformingrecovery.

Requireddevice

IftheoperatingsystemistoberecoveredfromarecoveryUSBdrive,aUSBkeyof16GBorlargerisrequired.

Backingupdatafromthesolid-statedrive

Ifthereisdatathatyouwouldliketomaintain,makeabackupofthedataandthenperformrecovery.For

multi-usercomputers,eachusershouldlogonandmakepersonalbackups.

Maintainingsystemsettings

Oncerecoveryisperformed,allthesettingsincludingsystemconﬁgurationwillberesettothefactorydefault

settings.Ifyouwouldliketousethecurrentsettingsagainafterrecovery,suchasBIOSSetupUtilitysettings

andnetworksettings,makeanoteofthecurrentsettings.

RestoringtheBIOSSetupUtilitysettings

Beforerecovery,besuretoloadthefactorydefaultsettingsfortheBIOSSetupUtility.

Note:BesuretoinitializethesecuritychipusingtheBIOSSetupUtilitybeforethecomputerrecovery.For

Precautionsduringrecovery

Takethefollowingprecautionsduringrecovery:

•Besuretofollowthestepsinthismanualandontherecoveryscreen.

•Besuretoconnectyourcomputertotheacpower.

•Ensurethatthecomputerpoweristurnedon.

•EnsurethatthewirelessLANfunctionisturnedon.

•Ensurethattheperipheraldevicesaredisconnected.

•Donotinterruptrecovery.

•Donotleavethecomputeraloneduringrecovery.

•Ifthemessage“Recoverycouldnotbecompleted”isdisplayed,itispossiblethatmodelinformationis

writtenincorrectly.Contactyourlocalserviceprovider.
